Malíkov lies in a forested setting between Moravská Třebová and Městečko Trnávka. Behind the houses stands a statue of the Holy Trinity; several original farmsteads have also been preserved in the village. Together with the first written mention of the village in 1270, these traces give it a distinctive historical character. They offer several points of interest during your stay: a monument, preserved farmsteads and a local history that can also be traced through old forms of the village’s name.
Local history and names
The first written mention of Malíkov dates from 1270. According to the municipality, following a secondary source, the name derives from the personal name Malík and means “Malík’s property”. The municipality also cites Maliksdorf and Moligsdorf as historical German forms of the name, again based on a secondary source. Moligsdorf was used from the 17th century onwards. Thus, the first written record of the village and a name used later represent different stages in its history.
The preserved farmsteads and the statue of the Holy Trinity are also tangible historical traces in the village. They highlight different aspects from the history of the name: here, the focus is on buildings and a monument; there, on written records and the origin of the name. Those interested in the history of small villages will find more than one historical point of interest in Malíkov.
Forests and surroundings
The Bohdalov-Hartinkov Nature Park lies nearby, east of Malíkov. Established in 1996, it covers a total area of about 6,265 hectares and was created to protect a landscape of aesthetic and biological value, with numerous significant landscape features. This protected landscape provides a focus distinct from the historical traces in the village; forests also shape Malíkov’s surroundings between Moravská Třebová and Městečko Trnávka.
The Kvíčalov/Kvíčalka Scout Camp lies in the forest between Malíkov and Ludvíkov. Kvíčalov/Kvíčalka was once known as a forest settlement visited by day-trippers. This former role offers another perspective on the forest landscape around Malíkov, alongside the village’s history.
One described hiking route runs from Rozstání through the forest to Malíkov and onwards to Kvíčalov. If you plan to take this hike, check current trail conditions before setting out. The route offers a different way to explore the area from its local history: the focus here is on the forest path between the places mentioned.
