Jevíčko between local history and Malá Haná

Jevíčko lies in the northern part of the fertile Malá Haná region. When planning your trip, it is worth considering two aspects: the architecture and cultural uses within the town, and routes whose themes extend beyond the town itself. The synagogue, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the town museum provide specific cultural points of interest; walking and cycling options complement them with different focuses. This lets you combine the town’s history with a walk through the conservation area, or plan your cycling around destinations in Jevíčko and the region.

Synagogue, Church and Museum

The present-day synagogue building in Jevíčko was built in 1792 and renovated in 1907. The former Jewish synagogue is now a place of worship for the Czechoslovak Hussite Church; exhibitions and concerts are also held there. The building’s history therefore sits alongside its present-day religious and cultural uses.

The Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was remodelled in the Baroque style between 1762 and 1766. The former Augustinian monastery is next to the church and was probably founded as early as 1370 by the Margrave of Moravia, Jan. The dates refer to different events: the remodelling of the church and the probable founding of the monastery.

The collections of the Jevíčko Town Museum add another cultural focus to the town’s architectural history. They can also be viewed outside opening hours by prior telephone arrangement. For your planning, one condition is important: visits outside regular hours require an advance telephone appointment.

Walking Routes and Named Destinations

The town walking route through Jevíčko passes through the urban conservation area and by historic sights. If you would like to focus on the historic town and its conservation area, this is the right thematic choice. The Městský okruh Jevíčko (Jevíčko Town Circuit) comprises seven stops with information boards. These describe sights and historic sites in the surrounding area, placing each stop in its local context.

The Bartolomějská pilgrimage route connects the town of Jevíčko with the Chapel of St. Bartholomew and the sanatorium near Jevíčko. A chapel and a sanatorium are the route’s explicitly named points of interest. Another leisure option is the Žlíbka sports and leisure complex, within walking distance of the centre of Jevíčko.

Cycling in Jevíčko and Malá Haná

Jevíčko is a partner in the Cyklookruhy project. The project provides clear routes for road cycling and mountain biking, as well as tips for interesting destinations in Jevíčko and the surrounding area that can be visited along the routes.

The “Skrz Maló Hanó” cycling route runs through the Malá Haná region and focuses on significant and memorable places. The difference in scale helps you choose a theme: Cyklookruhy connects different types of cycling with destinations in Jevíčko and the surrounding area; “Skrz Maló Hanó” focuses on the region and its significant and memorable places.
