An open, treeless hill with panoramic views, a river running through the lower part of town, and historic buildings give Těchonín its distinct character. The Tichá Orlice flows from Celné through the lower part of town and on toward Sobkovice; from Stanovnický kopec, you can see across the surrounding landscape. Cultural highlights include the Church of Saint Margaret, memorial sites in Těchonín and Celné, and the Bouda artillery fortress. When planning your trip, you can choose how to balance nature, hiking, and local history.
Forests, Views and Marked Trails
Extensive forests and scenic landscapes are part of the surroundings of Těchonín. Stanovnický kopec is treeless and offers views across the surrounding area. A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Těchonín through the Čerňovice Valley to Suchý vrch. At Stanovnický kopec, the open views are the main draw; the trail is defined more specifically by its route through the valley and its destination.
In winter, groomed cross-country ski trails in Těchonín can be used for excursions in the surrounding area. This adds an explicitly seasonal option to the hiking and viewpoints. If the trails will determine when you travel, check their current condition in advance.
Churches, Memorial Sites and Celné
The Church of Saint Margaret in Těchonín was built in 1704 on the site of an earlier wooden church. The altarpiece was created by painter Josef Vorlíček in 1862; it depicts Saint Margaret slaying a dragon. The church’s history can thus be explored both through its architecture and through a specific image.
In the village district of Celné, the Celné Cross bears the year 1790. The Celné Chapel was built in 1825 and is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. Its onion-shaped dome, topped with a lantern for the bell, gives the chapel a distinctive architectural feature. A monument beside the Těchonín cemetery also marks a separate historical moment: it commemorates 104 men and women of Greek or Macedonian origin buried there.
The revived Těchonín Masopust carnival procession, which has been held since 2001, is part of local tradition. If the procession is a deciding factor for your travel dates, check the specific event dates in advance.
Bouda Artillery Fortress
The Bouda artillery fortress lies in a wooded mountain massif above Těchonín, Lichkov, and Dolní Boříkovice. It has been listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1995. Tours of the fortress include exhibitions on the army, national defense, and Czechoslovak fortifications. The fortress also contains a protected winter roost for nine bat species; Bouda therefore has a designated nature conservation function in addition to its historical significance.
A green-marked hiking trail leads from Těchonín railway station to the fortress; the route is 6.5 km long. If you plan to take this trail, check the current trail conditions before setting out. It is also worth checking tour dates in advance if you have a particular visit in mind.
