Sopřeč lies in eastern Polabí, surrounded by forests and an attractive natural landscape. The Sopřečský rybník is the area’s main landscape feature. For planning your visit, you can choose between different options: a detour to the pond, a walk through the forests, or a cycling route through Sopřeč and on to Chýšť.

Pond Landscape and Birdlife

The Sopřečský rybník is located about one kilometre southeast of Sopřeč in the Pardubice District and covers 86 hectares. It was created in the 16th century as part of the Pernštejn pond system. Its size makes it a prominent feature of the surrounding landscape, while its origins link today’s scenery with the history of this historic pond system. If you would like to experience nature and regional history together, the pond offers a specific point of interest.

Today, the Sopřečský rybník is known primarily as an ornithological area with waterbirds. It is an important stopover for migrating geese and ducks. The species found there vary by season. For nature enthusiasts, this seasonal change is part of the area’s character.

Walking and Cycling

The yellow-marked Výrovský Circuit is a 6.5 km walking route through forests between Břehy near Přelouč, Vlčí Habřina and Sopřeč. A 500 m detour from this route leads to the Sopřečský rybník. If you would like to include both the pond and the forest path in your plans, this detour provides a specific point of reference. Check the signs and trail conditions before setting out; both can change.

For cycling, there is Route 4272. It runs from Výrov through Sopřeč to Chýšť and is 11 km long in total. From Výrov, it follows a forest track and crosses the dam of the Sopřečský rybník; rare waterbirds can be found at the dam. The route thus combines a set sequence of places with a natural stretch by the pond.

The two routes differ in activity and course: the Výrovský Circuit is a walk through forests with a detour to the pond, while cycling route 4272 runs from Výrov through Sopřeč to Chýšť. This can help you decide whether you would prefer a forest walk or a longer cycling trip.

Local Character and History

A statue of Saint Wenceslas stands at the southern edge of the village. It was consecrated in 1876 and created by sculptor Antonín Okrouhlický. A longer period of the village’s history is recorded in the memorial book kept by the village mayor: its entries span from 1773 to the beginning of the 20th century. While the statue provides a single dated point of reference, the book contains a series of entries covering more than a century. Together, they offer distinct historical perspectives: a specific monument and a longer written record of the village.

Sušina is also a named natural area: the forest lies west of Sopřeč and south of Vápno. It is a separate landscape feature alongside the Sopřečský rybník.
