The Třeština conservation area preserves the urban layout of an originally one-sided medieval settler village, founded on a ridge above a valley. Historic façades retain floral, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic decorations. The motifs range from plants and animals to human figures; the shape of the village itself is also part of its history. The village layout and the details of individual façades thus come together to shape its character.
Church, Farmsteads and Monuments
The Church of St Anthony of Padua is a single-nave Neo-Gothic church, completed in 1866 on the site of an earlier chapel. Its square tower is topped with an onion dome. Two farmsteads illustrate other aspects of rural architecture: No. 2 is an unusual type of rural homestead in the region and has a richly decorated main façade. The listed farmstead at No. 33 dates from 1837; its features include a rendered, richly articulated façade and a vaulted interior.
The Vysoudilova Chapel is a masonry triangular wayside shrine at the crossroads towards Dubicko and Police; it was built in 1745. The “Na stráž” war memorial was created in 1922 by the Prague sculptor and woodcarver Vojta Sucharda. These examples range from an 18th-century wayside shrine to a 20th-century monument. Ceramics are also part of the region’s cultural heritage: Třeština is associated with ceramic figurative sculpture, part of the traditional crafts of the Olomouc Region.
The Háj Waterworks
The Háj hydroelectric power station was built between 1921 and 1924. It is an important technical monument and a work of Czech interwar modernism. The plans provided for electricity generated at the station to supply the nearby municipality of Třeština as well. The history of energy supply thus adds another historical perspective to the village’s architectural history.
Cycling Route and Active Excursions
The 40-kilometre “Za památkami do Háje a Úsova” cycling route passes through Třeština and Háj, then follows the bank of the Morava River. Part of the route is included in the Moravská stezka long-distance cycling trail. Check current route conditions before setting off.
The Jezdecký oddíl Dubicko Třeština-Háj riding club offers riding lessons for adults and young people. The riding centre has 20 horse stalls, large paddocks, a large sand riding arena and an indoor riding hall. If riding lessons are part of your plans, check the current arrangements before you arrive; operating details may change. Canoeing equipment can be rented from IN-LIFE Morava’s boat hire service at Vila Háj. Availability and booking arrangements may change, so check in advance.
A Botanical Connection
The legally protected orchid Epipactis albensis was recorded on 10 September 2025 in a meadow and riverside woodland at a bend in the Morava near the Třeština weir. Its presence may vary seasonally. This find adds a natural history aspect to the architectural and technical history, and its timing is relevant when planning a visit.
