Malá Morava combines historical points of interest with opportunities for winter cross-country skiing. A climb north to KrálickĂ˝ SněžnĂk, taking around four hours, is also among the activities described. The municipality lies where Moravia meets Bohemia, between the HrubĂ˝ Les, KrálickĂ˝ SněžnĂk and Hanušovická vrchovina massifs. This raises a practical question for planning your trip: should your stay focus mainly on churches and monuments, winter cross-country skiing, or a longer climb?
Churches and monuments with a history of their own
In Vysoká, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity brings architectural history together with a museum. The chapel is listed as an immovable cultural monument and houses a museum about Franz Schubert and his family. Carl Schubert initiated the construction of the chapel in 1782 and made a financial contribution. This connects the place with Schubert’s family history, without implying that his contribution covered the full cost.
In VojtĂškov stands the Baroque Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, dating from 1807. A different historical period awaits you at the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Malá Morava: it was built in 1689. Set into its wall is a stone tombstone dating from 1629. The tombstone therefore predates the church by 60 years. For a cultural-historical perspective, the construction dates and this older detail offer two distinct points of interest.
PodlesĂ also brings together several protected landmarks. The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene was built in 1683 on the site of a former wooden Protestant prayer house and is among the protected monuments in Malá Morava. There is also a late Baroque plague column with a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1736, which is likewise among the protected monuments in PodlesĂ. The dates 1683 and 1736 point to different forms of religious architecture and remembrance. A glassworks is mentioned in SklenĂ© as early as 1437, so the area’s history extends beyond churches and chapels.
Cross-country skiing, a climb and getting your bearings
In winter, Malá Morava has numerous cross-country ski trails. For a different kind of outing, a climb from Malá Morava over a mountain ridge north to KrálickĂ˝ SněžnĂk takes around four hours. These two options offer different experiences: the trails provide several winter routes, while the climb’s stated duration gives you a specific timeframe. The 333rd kilometre of the Morava is also near the turn-off to VojtĂškov. A description from 2023 mentions a rest area there for passers-by and visitors to the municipality.
When choosing accommodation, you can first decide which of these interests you want your stay to focus on. The historical sites offer different construction dates and stories; in winter, the cross-country ski trails take centre stage, while the climb towards KrálickĂ˝ SněžnĂk is described as a longer excursion. This lets you plan around cultural history, winter activities or a trip with a defined duration, without combining these interests into a fixed itinerary.
Keep an eye on event dates
The MalomoravskĂ© slavnosti were announced for Saturday, 8 August 2026, at the football pitch in PodlesĂ; the event returned in 2026. This date is now in the past. If you are planning to attend a future edition, please check its announced date and venue again.
