Svébohov is a small foothill community at the foot of Zborovský háječek. Its landscape, trails and local history offer several distinct points of interest: alongside a nearby viewpoint, the village has protected buildings, an educational trail and a memorial plaque. When planning your trip, you can explore these as separate themes.

Views and Trail Connections

The Nadhledna Háječek viewpoint is near Svébohov, between Svébohov and Zborov. It offers unobstructed panoramic views in every direction. You can reach it on foot or by bike via a yellow-marked KČT trail of about 2 km. If trail conditions matter for your trip, check them before setting out.

The educational trail in the village is called “Nebe, peklo, země, ráj” (“Heaven, Hell, Earth, Paradise”). In addition, cycle route 6230 runs through Svébohov between Pivonín and Rovensko. This route description places the village on a cycle route between two named places; the yellow-marked KČT trail, by contrast, describes access to the viewpoint. If the cycle route is central to your trip, check its current course in advance.

Architectural and Commemorative History

The cleared timber-frame farmstead at No. 41 is protected cultural heritage dating from the first half of the 19th century. The Evangelical prayer house, built in 1860, is listed as a protected monument. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie) dates from 1869 and is historicist in style. The farmstead dates back to the first half of the century, while the prayer house and church represent later construction dates. In Svébohov, the farmstead and two religious buildings thus provide distinct historical points of reference.

The church remains an active place of worship and is also of historical interest. If you plan to attend a service, check the current times in advance. A memorial plaque to Arnošt Valenta is located on the front wall of the municipal office. Valenta was a member of the 311th Czechoslovak Bomber Squadron in Great Britain and took part in the “Great Escape” from the Stalag Luft 3 prisoner-of-war camp. This personal remembrance adds another dimension to the village’s architectural history.

Cottage Industries and Everyday Life in the Past

In the past, local people supplemented their agricultural work with cottage industries. They first spun yarn; later, they made thread buttons, wooden shoes and other wooden goods. This sequence moves from a textile activity to a variety of products made from thread and wood. It complements the history of the farmstead and religious buildings with an account of the work that once supplemented the population’s agricultural livelihood.

When choosing what to explore, two different perspectives are available: the unobstructed panoramic view from Háječek offers a focus on the landscape, while the farmstead, religious buildings, memorial plaque and cottage industries reveal different aspects of local history. Consider whether views or historical themes matter more to your stay.
