Janoušov lies on the southern edge of Hrubý les; the northern part of the municipality extends above 700 m. The destination combines a specific hiking option with several traces of local history. The Janoušovský Circuit focuses on scenery and exercise, while chapels, a cross and the monument to the world wars bring historical themes to life.

Hiking and Scenery

The Janoušovský Circuit is an approximately 9.5 km hiking route marked in blue, with several information boards and signposts. At its highest point, it reaches 845 m and offers views of the Jeseníky Mountains. Most of the route runs along forest paths; shorter sections follow paved and partly field tracks. A tourism description updated in 2020 considers the circuit suitable for families with children.

A green-marked hiking trail also passes through Janoušov. Before setting off, check the current markings for both routes on site. For the Janoušovský Circuit, its length, elevation and trail surface help you gauge the hike; the views of the Jeseníky Mountains add another scenic dimension.

Chapels and Religious Details

The Chapel of Saint Anne dates from 1882. The wooden chapel was built in 2015–2016 and blessed on 24 July by the Bishop of Olomouc, Mons. Josef Hrdlička. The histories of the two buildings offer different historical points of reference: one is a 19th-century chapel, the other a more recent construction.

Inside the wooden chapel is a large wooden crucifix bearing the body of Christ. A small bell tower sits at its peak, topped with a cross. These details concern both the interior furnishings and the building’s silhouette.

The cross with the Sorrowful Mother dates from the first half of the 19th century. Its Neoclassical forms are combined with enduring Baroque design elements. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is also among the village’s religious artworks: it was declared a cultural monument by a decision dated 15 February 2012.

Monument and Local History

The monument to the world wars stands on a slope near the municipal office and was unveiled in 1921. It consists of a polished granite stele with plaques bearing the names of those killed or missing in the First and Second World Wars. Its material, inscriptions and location clearly connect the monument with remembrance of both wars.

A wooden statue depicts the presumed founder or locator of the settlement. This interpretation is deliberately left open. Historical cottage industries in Janoušov included making brushes and rakes, weaving baskets from willow twigs, binding birch brooms and sewing on thread buttons. These crafts complement the architectural traces with a glimpse of past activities in the village; they are historical, not current, offerings.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Janoušov can be reached via a turn-off to Bušín from the Šumperk–Červená Voda road. Road conditions can change, so check them before travelling. A tourist shelter for passing hikers and day-trippers has been built near the centre.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, you can start planning your trip by considering whether hiking or local history matters more to you. The circuit offers a described hiking option with marked sections and views; the chapels, cross and monument provide other points of interest. This makes it easy to assess Janoušov in light of the interests you want your trip to reflect.
