Kojetín offers a variety of discoveries: significant historic buildings, a town museum with diverse collections, and a nature trail at the Biocentrum. The events calendar also has its own highlights. You can shape your stay around local history, theatre or nature, rather than cramming every theme into a single itinerary.
Architectural history and the town museum
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the town’s most significant historic building. It is located near the main square on Olomouc–Kroměříž road, which runs through the town centre. The former synagogue was built in the mid-15th century and is one of Kojetín’s oldest buildings. Both buildings offer different starting points for anyone interested in the town’s architectural history.
The Kojetín Town Museum takes you further back in history: its collections include evidence of continuous settlement in the present-day area since the Palaeolithic. The collection also features examples of folk art, traditional costumes and folk ceramics, an extensive numismatic collection, and a significant collection of old prints. Admission to the VIC Gallery and the museum’s permanent exhibition is free; check the admission arrangements before your visit.
For school and children’s groups, the town museum offers tours led by information or museum staff, as well as accompanying programmes, by prior arrangement. Groups must have at least three and no more than 20 people. The Hrůzostrašné sklepení can accommodate a maximum of ten people. If you are planning a group visit, take the advance booking requirement and these different group-size limits into account.
Theatre and festivals throughout the year
March is traditionally devoted to amateur theatre in Kojetín. That is when Divadelní Kojetín takes place, the regional qualifying showcase for amateur theatre groups. For theatre enthusiasts, this recurring event may determine when to plan a trip.
Another regular cultural event is Kojetínské hody: since 1999, the three-day festival has been celebrated every year in mid-August with a traditionally varied programme. The two event highlights are therefore quite distinct: amateur theatre takes centre stage in March, while the multi-day town festival takes place in mid-August.
Nature trail and Biocentrum
The Naučná stezka Biocentrum Kojetín nature trail runs around the Na Hrázi pond and across a footbridge through part of the Biocentrum. The trail is intended for children, families with children, schools, seniors and tourists, and is also suitable for people with pushchairs and wheelchair users. It therefore caters to a range of visitors, without requiring you to tailor your outing to a particular age group or type of travelling party.
Part of the Biocentrum consists of artificially created pools and channels that support aquatic animals. The nature trail combines a route by the pond and through part of the Biocentrum with a close-up look at its water-based design. This makes for a clearly defined focus for a nature outing, distinct from the town’s buildings and cultural events.
Water attractions
Kojetín’s swimming pool complex includes pools, a water slide, a Kamikaze slide, a whirlpool and other water attractions. If you are planning to visit as part of your trip, check in advance which facilities will be available at your chosen time, as they may change.
