Discover Prosenice through its village centre and history: the Strhanec water channel flows through the centre, while the Prosenice Museum offers insights into village life and local crafts. The village lies in the flat landscape of the Moravian Gate, about five kilometres from Přerov. Cultural history and landscape provide the setting; the Bečva Cycle Path adds a specific route through Prosenice to these themes.

Landscape between the village centre and cadastral area

The Strhanec water channel flows through the centre. The Bečva flows through the cadastral area of Prosenice, where there are also several ponds. This brings together different spatial features: the channel in the village centre, and the river and ponds in the cadastral area. Together with the flat landscape of the Moravian Gate, they form a landscape that encompasses both the village and its wider area. Its location about five kilometres from Přerov provides an additional geographical reference without reducing Prosenice to a mere stop along the way.

Museum and architectural history

The Prosenice Museum shows what life in the village was like about a hundred years ago. Its themes include local crafts and agricultural tools, as well as exhibitions about the local sugar factory, brickworks and dairy. The programme also offers a range of ways to get involved: practical demonstrations of traditional crafts, workshops for children, discussion events and concerts. Specific dates may vary, so check which events are taking place on your travel dates before visiting.

Another historical landmark is the mill with a Žudr dating from the 18th century. It is privately owned and used as a recreational property. If you are considering a visit, check in advance whether one is possible. The church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist is a monument of local significance and was built between 1787 and 1788. Prosenice also has a school building dating from 1859, as well as a bell tower that is more than 200 years old; both are part of the village’s architectural heritage.

The settlement’s history can also be traced through a further, cautiously worded connection: judging by the layout of the oldest part of the village, Prosenice appears to have been one of the old Slavic villages of the street-shaped round-village type. Part of this settlement pattern is still visible in the buildings today. The year 1948 marks a clear historical turning point: the former cadastral municipalities of Velké Prosenice and Malé Prosenice were united into one municipality.

The Bečva Cycle Path as another highlight

The Bečva Cycle Path passes through Prosenice and is considered a route for cyclists, inline skaters, tourists and cross-country skiers. The section described here is 65 kilometres long in total. The route adds another way to include Prosenice in your travel plans alongside its local cultural attractions. As route conditions can vary seasonally, check the conditions on the specific route before setting out.

Choosing accommodation

When looking for a holiday apartment in Prosenice, consider whether local history and the museum programme or the Bečva Cycle Path will be the main focus of your stay. For a cultural visit, check the specific museum dates; if you are planning a cycling stage, check the seasonal route conditions in advance. This brings two different planning questions into focus: When is the museum event you are interested in taking place, and what conditions will apply on the route at the time of your trip?
