The Naučná stezka kolem České Vsi educational trail is about eight kilometres long and has 25 stops. It starts in the Krajník district at the Southern Viewpoint, passes through the centre of Česká Ves and continues to Čertovy kameny. The route thus runs from the village streets to a distinctive rock massif.
Educational Trail, Rocks and Views
Along the trail are remains of military trenches, a restored wooden chapel, forest springs, stone menhirs and climbing walls. Watermills on the Pompeho říčka stream are also among the route’s described features. This blend of natural and historical sites offers a way to discover different sides of Česká Ves, rather than focusing on just one stop.
The Naučná stezka kolem České Vsi offers views of the Zlatohorská vrchovina uplands, the Priessnitz Sanatorium and the Polish plains beyond. At the endpoint, Čertovy kameny, you’ll find a rock massif surrounded by numerous legends. Tourists and nature lovers have been drawn to it since the Gräfenberg spa was founded. One detail from its history dates to 1892, when an iron railing was installed to make it easier to reach the highest rock tower.
Church, Museums and Memorial Sites
The Church of St. Joseph (sv. Josefa) was consecrated in 1928. Its unusual twin-tower design and richly appointed interior define its architectural character. Visits can be arranged in advance through the municipal office; it’s best to confirm a date before your trip.
Budova Šoltézství is the oldest building in Česká Ves and is mentioned as early as before 1550. It is the birthplace of Sofie Priessnitzová, who was born there on 17 September 1804 into a wealthy farming family. Johan Schroth was also born in Česká Ves, on 11 February 1798; he later founded a naturopathic diet clinic in Dolní Lipová.
The Válečné muzeum Česká Ves is located in a former fire station. Its foundations were laid around 1891/1892, and the building served firefighters continuously until January 2015. The museum covers local residents killed in the First World War, prisoners of war in the Second World War, and the experiences of soldiers in more recent operations. It also has exhibitions on Czechoslovakia’s pre-war fortifications, the 1938 army mobilization, and aviation and flight events in the Jeseník area.
Another landmark of local history is a monument erected in 1934 to the 113 men who were killed or went missing in the First World War. Beside it, a marble pylon commemorates the victims of the Second World War from 1939 to 1945. The Muzeum Auto – motoveteránů is located in the centre near the “U zrcadla” bend and is run by the local AMV club.
