A protected butterfly, a nature trail with ten stops and buildings from different centuries give Mladecko several distinct ways to explore. The Jakartovice Natural Monument also includes the cadastral area of Mladecko; the village’s history stretches from a timber house dating from 1830 to an Empire-style chateau from the early 19th century. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing the nature and cultural attractions from the routes of varying lengths.
Nature and the nature trail
The Dusky Large Blue butterfly (Maculinea nausithous), a protected species belonging to the Natura 2000 network, is found in the Jakartovice Natural Monument. The protected area includes species-poor alluvial wet meadows, a meandering watercourse and a floodplain forest lined with ash and alder trees. The cadastral area of Mladecko is also part of the natural monument. This brings together the protection of a specific species and a landscape of wet meadows, a watercourse and floodplain forest.
The Mladecko Nature Trail (PĹ™ĂrodovÄ›dná nauÄŤná stezka Mladeckem) has a different focus. Its ten stops cover the history of the school and village, the region’s basic ecosystems and nature conservation. The trail is open to the general public and offers a way to learn about Mladecko’s geological past and natural environment. If you would like to explore nature alongside local history, the trail brings both together in its educational programme.
Architectural history in Mladecko
The Chapel of St Joseph was built in 1882. Its furnishings include a Neo-Gothic altar and a statue of St John of Nepomuk dating from the early 19th century. A cross dating from 1904 stands in front of the chapel. These dates place the chapel and the cross in different periods of the village’s history.
Another example of historic architecture is the timber house at No. 44, an immovable cultural monument and a vernacular timber house in the Eastern Sudeten style, dating from 1830. Alongside the chapel’s religious furnishings, it highlights a very different architectural style.
The history of MladeckĂ˝ DvĹŻr also spans several building phases. A former chateau was built in Mladecko at the end of the 17th century and demolished in 1772. A new Empire-style chateau was then built in MladeckĂ˝ DvĹŻr in the early 19th century. A spacious landscape park was later laid out around the chateau. This makes it possible to distinguish the sequence from the former chateau to the new building and, later, the park.
Trails and getting around
A green-marked hiking trail leads from Mladecko railway station to Kružberk Reservoir, around 9 kilometres away. Mladecko Municipality’s Excursion No. 4 is on a different scale: this visitor route is 52 kilometres long and starts in Mladecko. The hiking trail leads to a specific destination, while the longer visitor route is defined by its total distance and starting point. If you are choosing between the two, their different lengths can help guide your decision.
The Opava východ–Svobodné Heřmanice railway line runs through the northern part of Mladecko. If you are considering travelling by train, check the current timetable before your journey.
Vehicles and exhibition
The Military History Club site is 600 metres from Mladecko railway station. It displays historic military and civilian vehicles, as well as aviation technology. The club also holds the annual Výstava vojenské techniky exhibition in Mladecko. If you would like to include the exhibition in your trip, check the specific dates in advance.
