Vendryně can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: hiking trails in two lengths, the restored Vápenné pece, a cycling route with information boards, and the history of the church and village. The timeframe is especially useful for planning: the circular routes range from half-day hikes to a full-day tour; a visit to the Pamětní síň obce Vendryně requires a prior arrangement.
Hiking to the Lime Kilns and on Circular Trails
The Vápenné pece are 2 km from Vendryně railway stop; a green hiking trail leads to them from there. The two restored kilns offer a way to learn about the area's history and provide visitors with a place to relax. Check trail conditions before setting out, before planning to use this route.
The “Za krásami vendryňské přírody” trail consists of two separate circular routes. They are approximately 10 km and 22 km long and can be completed individually as half-day hikes or together as a full-day tour. This lets you tailor your hiking time to half a day or a full day, without treating the two loops as one fixed distance. The distances are approximate; the trail markings may also change. Check the current route if you are planning a specific loop.
Cycling the Vendryňský kotár
The Vendryňský kotár cycling route was reconstructed and officially opened on 10 May 2008; information boards mark the route. The Vendryňský kotár cycling race for the Mayor's Cup for children and adults is held there every year. If the race is important to your visit, check the dates for the relevant edition; dates may vary from year to year. The signs may also be updated or moved, so it is worth checking the latest information before setting out on a specific ride.
Lime Processing and Local History
The local “Wopiynky” were lime kilns where limestone mined in Vendryně was processed. Both the extraction of the raw material and its processing are therefore part of the village's history. The restored Vápenné pece offer another way to learn about the area's history; they also provide visitors with a place to relax.
Church and Historical Heritage
The Kostel sv. Kateřiny church in Vendryně is a single-nave masonry building in the Gothic style. The tower housed a distinctively shaped bell, probably cast in the mid-15th century by bell founder Hans Freudenthal. A Baroque cross dating from 1790 stands in the nearby cemetery. The church, the bell's history and the cemetery cross each reflect a different period: Gothic architecture, a probably late-medieval bell and a dated example of Baroque heritage.
Visiting the Pamětní síň
The Pamětní síň obce Vendryně has irregular opening hours; visits are possible by prior arrangement. A regular visit lasts 30 to 45 minutes. Arrange your visit in advance and allow for this timeframe if you are planning other activities on the same day.
