A 29-kilometre cycling route passes through Staré Heřminovy. The village also has a streetscape along the Stará Voda stream and historical traces spanning its founding and reconstruction. If you are weighing cycling, scenery and village history against one another when planning a trip, you will find specific points of interest here that show different sides of the place.
Landscape and streetscape
Staré Heřminovy lies in the Nízký Jeseník. The Stará Voda stream flows through the village; the houses stand in two rows on either side of the stream in a sunny valley. Together, the stream, valley and rows of houses describe the settlement’s layout. This is a concrete starting point if you want to include the landscape and streetscape in your travel plans alongside a bike ride.
Cycle Route 6164
Cycle Route 6164 passes through Staré Heřminovy and covers a total of 29 kilometres from Leskovec nad Moravicí to Holasovice. This makes it easy to distinguish the route through the village from the two endpoints of the connection: Staré Heřminovy is on the route, while the stated endpoints are Leskovec nad Moravicí and Holasovice. The figure of 29 kilometres refers to the entire route, not just the section through the village.
Founding and reconstruction
Staré Heřminovy was founded in 1253 and was one of the monastic villages established in the area around Benešov. The village was burned down in 1474; around 1521, settlers from Silesia and Brandenburg rebuilt the destroyed settlement. Its history thus runs from its founding through a major turning point to reconstruction. Around half a century lies between the fire and the approximately dated reconstruction.
Historical traces
A war memorial erected in 1920 stands by the cemetery wall in a small park in the village. The Church of St. Wenceslas has a still-functioning tower clock dating from 1885. If you take this detail into account when visiting, check the clock’s condition on site. The Czechs Chapel is one of the local chapels. Sandlerův mlýn is part of the area’s older economic history: the historic mill stood at a crossroads of county roads; later, the younger son Fritz had a water turbine built there. The tower clock and war memorial date from significantly later than the founding and reconstruction; their dates add more recent points of reference to the village’s early history.
Village centre and events
The centre of Staré Heřminovy has a bus stop, a grocery store, the municipal office, the church, the fire station and an inn. These provide points of reference for transport, shopping, local government, religion, fire services and dining. Cultural and social events include a competition for young firefighters. If you would like to combine your visit with an event, check the announced dates before travelling.
