Razová lies on the left bank of the Slezská Harta reservoir. There are several possible focuses for a stay: swimming by the water, heat-loving plants and geological features, or traces of the history of technology. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, first consider which of these themes you want to shape your trip. You can then compare the location of an accommodation option with your own plans.

Geology and habitats

The Razovské tufity reveal a 12 m-high outcrop of pyroclastic sediments. They were probably deposited in the bay of a lake that existed intermittently, during the volcanic activity of Velký Roudný at the end of the Tertiary or the beginning of the Quaternary. This cautious interpretation connects a specific geological finding with a possible formation history: the outcrop is identified, while its deposition in the lake bay remains probable. The term “pyroclastic” points to the volcanic theme, while the presumed lake bay describes the environment in which the sediments were deposited.

Basiphilous, heat-loving habitats have developed on the old quarry walls of Razovské tufity. Heat-loving plant species grow there that are not found elsewhere in the surrounding area. Geological and botanical aspects therefore come together on these walls: the history of the rock explains the character of the place, while the distinctive habitats add another dimension to its natural appeal. Those interested in landscapes and plants will find more than one way to appreciate the same geological context.

Traces of the history of technology

The use of the rock is also part of the area’s history. Volcanic tuffite was extracted in two sandstone quarries near Razová and processed into decorative stone. Another technical landmark is the Vápenná pec: the lime kiln is about 2 km from Razová in the direction of Leskovec and was built in 1912 for burning lime. Thus, the quarrying and processing of rock stand alongside a structure whose original purpose was directly connected with lime production.

The Vápenná pec was opened to the public in 2001 and is now a technical monument. Check current access arrangements in advance if you are planning a visit. Its opening and present-day monument status provide a good reason to include the site in your travel plans, without assuming that a visit is possible at all times.

Local history and a protected linden tree

The earliest surviving written records of Razová date from 1288. The Památná lípa represents another kind of local heritage: the tree was designated as protected in 2005, and its estimated age is 200 years. The dates tell different stories: the earliest surviving written records of the village, on the one hand, and the protection status of a tree, on the other. Together, they offer a historical and a natural point of interest for learning about Razová.

Getting around between the shore and the village

The Vápenná pec educational trail starts at the edge of Razová, in a bay on the left bank. This starting point links the village with the lakeside landscape; a distance figure is not needed here for planning. For travel to or onward from the area, bus route 854909 connects Bruntál, Razová and Moravský Beroun. If you plan to use the bus, check the services that match your travel dates.

There are places to swim at the Slezská Harta reservoir. Razová lies on its left bank; if swimming is important to your stay, include the specific bathing spot in your plans. This lets you weigh a focus on the water against an interest in geology, nature or the history of technology, without treating every experience as part of a single programme.

Choose accommodation to suit your plans

When looking for a holiday apartment, your planned activities can help guide you: do you want swimming to be a central part of your stay, are you particularly interested in the geological features, or would you like to include the history of technology? Compare the location of a specific accommodation option with your plans and check availability for your travel dates. The themes described give Razová a distinctive character; you can decide which of them to combine to suit your stay.
