Karlova Studánka combines spa architecture, mineral springs and trails for different ability levels. The Geological Exhibition is 200 metres long and easy to walk; the Environmentální trasa – Hvězda spa circuit is 3.4 kilometres long, while the Bílá Opava educational trail is more challenging. This means you can choose between a short geological discovery, a marked circular route and a hike with challenging sections. Historic buildings and the services offered by Horské lázně Karlova Studánka provide further points to consider when planning your trip.

Spa History Told Through Two Buildings

Karlova Studánka was declared a heritage zone in 2004. The Hudební hala, built in 1836–1837, is a protected building that has been preserved almost in its original condition. Its wooden structure rests on a stone base, and Tuscan columns are part of its design. Its construction period, state of preservation and combination of architectural elements give the building a distinct architectural profile.

The Pitný pavilon was built in 1864 and was formerly called Vilémův pramen. This wooden pavilion with a covered spring is considered a symbol and an architectural and urban landmark of the spa town. Iron-rich water can be drawn from several outlets; check current access conditions before your visit. Unlike the Hudební hala, the pavilion directly connects the town’s architectural history with a spring.

Spa Circuit and Geology

The Environmentální trasa – Hvězda begins at the main entrance to the Libuše spa house and returns there, forming a 3.4-kilometre spa circuit. Red squares mark the route, and signs with quiz questions are placed along the entire trail. Its starting point, markers and questions make it a clearly defined way to combine exercise with a little learning.

The Geological Exhibition offers a much shorter walk: it is 200 metres long, easy and suitable for walking. Its subject is the geological development of the entire Jeseníky region. The two options therefore differ in both length and subject: one explores the geology of a whole region, while the other is a marked spa circuit with quiz questions. If you want to compare trails, you can choose between a short and a longer option, each with its own focus.

A Challenging Hike Along the Bílá Opava

The Bílá Opava educational trail begins at the car park in Karlova Studánka. The route passes by the Barborka mountain hut and connects to the Se skřítkem okolí Pradědu educational trail, which continues to Praděd. Through the Bílá Opava Valley, the trail runs through a nature reserve with cascades and waterfalls.

This hike requires different planning from the easy Geological Exhibition: the trail is more challenging and includes sections with footbridges over the stream, ladders and chains. For the Environmentální trasa – Hvězda, it is advisable to check the latest trail information. Conditions on the Bílá Opava educational trail may vary seasonally, and parking availability may also change.

Spa Climate, Treatments and Cycling Route

The spa setting of Horské lázně Karlova Studánka is shaped by a healthy mountain climate and mineral springs. Its services include restorative and medical treatments; individual treatments may change. The Pitný pavilon and the other springs provide a visible link between the spa and the town’s architecture, while the exhibition and hiking trails appeal to other interests.

A cycling route is also available: Route 553 runs from Vrbno pod Pradědem to Karlova Studánka. It adds a cycling connection to the options of a circular trail, a geological excursion and a hike. Route conditions may change; check the latest information before planning your trip.
