In Olešnice, you can consider nature trails, cycling routes and cultural monuments as different ways to shape your stay. A hilly forest with sandstone cliffs lies in the north of the municipality. There are also historic landmarks, such as a Baroque statue and a half-timbered house. The best way to decide which holiday apartment suits your plans is to consider which of these discoveries interests you most.

Forest, Walking Trails and Cycling Routes

A yellow-marked walking trail runs from Všeň towards Valdštejn through the north of Olešnice, passing the ruins of Chlum-Kozlov. You can reach the ruins on foot along the yellow trail from either Všeň or Valdštejn Castle. This gives you two named starting points for an excursion to this destination. Check the trail markings and local conditions before planning your walk.

The Vústra Nature Reserve offers another option: it is freely accessible, and a marked walking trail runs near its western boundary. This is a different specific point of reference from the trail to the ruins. If both places interest you, compare the respective trails and destinations when planning your day rather than assuming, without checking, that they form a single route.

The cycling routes also differ in their course. Cycle Route 4012 crosses the Pohoří ridge from Všeň to Kacanovy. The blue-marked Cycle Route 4009 runs from Kacanovy past the southern edge of Olešnice and continues via Mlýnice and Žehrov. In practical terms, one route focuses on the ridge and the connection between Všeň and Kacanovy, while the other follows the southern edge of Olešnice and passes through the named intermediate places. Route conditions can change; check local conditions before setting off.

Cultural Monuments and Kozlov Castle

The Baroque statue of Panny Marie Bozkovské is located in the village and is considered an important cultural monument. The half-timbered house No. 16 offers a different view of regional architecture: it is an example of the folk architecture of the Pojizeří region and features a carved, four-tiered gable crest. The statue and the house thus appeal to different interests: sacred Baroque art on the one hand and traditional half-timbered architecture on the other.

Kozlov Castle, also known as Chlum, was built either in the late 13th or early 14th century; the first documentary mention of it dates to 1362. Chlum (Kozlov) Castle is also located in an area where archaeological finds have been made.

Getting There and Choosing Accommodation

A source published in 2023 mentions a possible bus connection on the Turnov–Vyskeř route, as well as tourist bike buses to Olešnice during the tourist season. Since seasonal services and operating details can change, check the current timetables before travelling if you plan to rely on these connections.

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide what matters most to you: would you mainly like to see the architectural and cultural monuments, walk to the ruins of Chlum-Kozlov, or choose one of the named cycling routes? Then compare the accommodation’s location with the places and trails that matter for your stay. This lets you base your search on a specific travel plan without treating walking, cultural and cycling destinations as the same kind of excursion.
