Svijany adds a distinct cultural dimension to travel planning: at Zámek Svijany, the publicly accessible exhibitions range from archaeology to brewery history, while a nature trail with six stops leads through the town. Other highlights include a seasonal night tour of the castle, public brewery tours and a military cemetery serving as a memorial. These activities differ in subject, duration and format, making it easier to plan your visit around your interests.

Archaeology and Castle History

At Zámek Svijany, the exhibitions explore archaeology, the history of the castle and its surroundings, and the history of the brewery. The underground areas and the castle chapel are also among the exhibition topics. The Bronze Age archaeological exhibition includes a bronze hoard; another exhibition focuses on the Neolithic period and Eduard Štorch. The castle therefore brings early historical periods together with the history of the building and the brewery. Visitors interested in archaeology will find a specific focus here within the publicly accessible castle.

Tours in Different Time Formats

From May to October, the castle offers two-hour night tours with archaeologist Mgr. Petr BrestovanskĂ˝. The tours focus on stories and archaeological discoveries. The brewery offers another perspective: public tours lasting about 60 minutes show the brewing processes, and visitors can also taste unfiltered beer straight from a lager tank. The difference is useful for planning: the castle tour lasts two hours, while the brewery tour takes about one. If you plan to attend either tour, check the available dates or the latest visitor information in advance.

A Nature Trail Through Svijany

The První naučná stezka Svijany is a nature trail with six stops and a length of up to 0.5 km. It starts at the D10 underpass in the lower part of the municipality, passes through Svijany along the main road by Pivovar Svijany and Zámek Svijany, and ends at the upper edge of the town by the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The trail also points visitors to the nearby Žabakor Nature Reserve, where rare bird species can be observed. This adds a connection to nature in the surrounding area to the cultural and historical focus.

Brewery History and Memorial

The history of the Svijany Brewery began in 1564. It uses the decoction method with two mashes, typical of Czech beer. The brewery tour provides an insight into the brewing processes, adding a look at current methods to the historical perspective. The restored military cemetery commemorates another chapter in the town’s history: it is dedicated to the events of the Austro-Prussian War on June 26, 1866. The site includes four monuments and an entrance gate; the memorial is intended for residents and visitors.

Cycling and the Regional Natural Landscape

Cyclists can also enjoy a specific local attraction: on October 2, 2025, the F101.2 section of the Greenway Jizera opened in Svijany. It connects a previously completed stretch through the Kabeláčová Garden toward the main road and forms a middle section of the route between the municipalities and local cycling paths. Check the route conditions before setting out.

In the wider region, the Greenway Jizera follows the Jizera River. It is suitable for cyclists, walkers and families, links natural landscapes with cultural monuments, and offers activities for visitors of different age groups. Comparing it with the local nature trail highlights two different scales: the trail is clearly defined, with six stops and a length of up to 0.5 km, while the Greenway is described as a leisure route in the wider area. When planning, you can therefore choose between a short themed trail through Svijany and a regional route along the river. For the local cycling route section, it is advisable to check the route conditions before departure.
