Vrtky lies southwest of Český Dub at an elevation of 388 to 414 metres above sea level. The buildings are scattered, and some are used for recreation; there are 14 recreational properties in total. The village’s scattered buildings, some of them used for recreation, give Vrtky a rural character. For trip planning, its location and the character of its buildings offer different points of reference alongside the routes and local memorials. This makes it possible to place the village both in relation to Český Dub and by its elevation.
Hiking and cycling: two different routes
A blue-marked hiking route passes through Vrtky via Hlavice, Lesnovek and HrubĂ˝ Lesnov. The T 3048 cycle route connects Vrtky with Hlavice and Cetenov. Hlavice features on both routes; the other named places differ: Lesnovek and HrubĂ˝ Lesnov are on the hiking route, while Cetenov is on the cycle route. For your planning, this is a practical distinction between a hiking route that passes through several named places and a cycle route connecting Vrtky, Hlavice and Cetenov.
Route markings and conditions may change. Check the current route before setting out; for the cycle route, it is also worth checking the surface conditions.
Memorial sites and cemetery
A memorial to the fallen of the First World War stands at the cemetery in Vrtky. The village is also home to a former brick-built water tower, an object of technical significance. These two features relate to different subjects: remembrance of the fallen and the village’s technical history. They add a cultural and historical dimension to planning a visit, alongside the routes.
The rules adopted in 2020 set daily seasonal opening hours for the public cemetery in Vrtky: 7:00–17:00 from January to March and October to December, 7:00–20:00 in April and September, and 7:00–21:00 from May to August. The longest opening hours are therefore from May to August, and the shortest during the winter half of the year. Check the access conditions before visiting.
Getting there and planning your stay
IDOL bus service 540721/1004 connects Český Dub, Všelibice and Vrtky with Mnichovo Hradiště. It offers a specific option to include bus travel in your plans. Timetables and service patterns may change, so check the current timetable before travelling. This lets you plan the hiking or cycling route and the bus connection separately, rather than automatically assuming the same way of getting there for both activities.
If you are looking for a holiday rental in Vrtky, start by considering the focus of your trip: hiking via the places named above, cycling on the route connecting Hlavice and Cetenov, or travelling by bus. If you plan to visit the cemetery, the month is also a factor, since the set opening hours change seasonally.
