Stráž Nad Nisou offers three specific starting points for planning a trip: architectural and industrial history, named cycling routes, and rail and bus connections in different directions. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, start by asking which of these themes will shape your stay: a festival date, a cycling plan or a look at local history.
Church and manor house: two historical strands
The brick Church of St Catherine of Alexandria was built in 1599 and remodelled in the Baroque style in 1727–1728. Opposite the church stands the entrance gate to the former manor house; it is a protected monument. The church and gate thus offer two specific starting points for exploring local architectural history.
The industrial history of the manor house is also associated with a year: in 1800, Liberec entrepreneur J. G. Berger acquired it. The buildings were converted into the first textile factory of its kind in the Liberec region. The church’s construction phases and the manor house’s later conversion can therefore be considered as distinct historical themes.
Cycling routes with different points of reference
There are three named routes to distinguish for a cycling trip. Long-distance cycling route No. 14/14A Odra–Nisa runs along the edge of Stráž Nad Nisou. Local cycling route 3006 connects Liberec with Stráž Nad Nisou, Mníšek, Oldřichov v Hájích and Hejnice. Local cycling route 3065 connects Stráž Nad Nisou with Chrastava.
The difference lies in how each route is described in relation to the town: the long-distance route follows the edge of the town, while the two local routes connect it with the named places. This can help you get your bearings when deciding which route should be the focus of your plans. Check the current route signs before setting off; for the long-distance route, you should also check the current numbering.
Getting here by train and bus
Single-track, non-electrified railway line 089 runs through the southern part of Stráž Nad Nisou. Via Zittau, it provides cross-border passenger connections to Dresden. Bus services run from Stráž Nad Nisou towards Mníšek, Chrastava and Hrádek nad Nisou. Rail and bus therefore offer different options for planning your journey.
Check the current timetable for specific departures and connections. This will let you compare the listed travel directions with your actual onward and return journey, rather than infer a particular connection or departure time from the route description alone.
Festival and local natural landmark
Strážské slavnosti is a traditional local festival. The 2026 edition is planned as a two-day visitor festival; dates and programme depend on the particular edition. If the festival is the reason for your trip, plan around the specific dates and programme items for the edition you wish to attend.
The oak tree “Schillerův dub” is also precisely located: it stands at the intersection of U Kina and Hakenova streets.
Plan your stay around the reason for your visit
Your plans will depend on different factors depending on your focus: a festival visit depends on the dates of that edition, while cycling and rail plans require checking current route signs or timetables. The history of the church and manor house offers a distinct theme of its own. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can tailor your search to the reason that matters most for your stay.
