Oldřichov v Hájích combines nature trails, striking landscape features and traces of local history.
Location in the Jizera Mountains
The municipality lies in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains, between the Hejnický hřbet and Oldřichovský hřbet ridges. The Jizerskohorské bučiny National Nature Reserve is nearby; it has been on the UNESCO list since 2021. The ridges and the reserve give the nature theme specific geographical reference points: the foothills between named ridges and a protected area in the municipality’s surroundings.
Nature Trails and Routes by Character
The Oldřichovské bučiny nature trail is 1.3 km long and has 18 stops with interactive features. It runs from Oldřichovské sedlo via the Gorila rock formation and Lysé skály to the Skalní hrad viewpoint. The stops also give the route an interactive learning aspect. As the trail infrastructure may change, check the trail’s condition before your visit.
Another nature trail, Včelí, starts on the grounds of the Ekocentrum in Oldřichov v Hájích. Viničná cesta offers a different perspective on the landscape: it follows a contour line through deciduous forests along the steep, rocky northern slopes of the Jizera Mountains. If choosing a route based on its features, you can compare the Oldřichovské bučiny nature trail, with its rock formations and viewpoint, with Viničná cesta, which follows the contours through the forest.
Nature at the Visitor Centre
Dům přírody Jizerských hor is the visitor centre for the Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area and is located in Oldřichov v Hájích. The centre houses the natural science exhibition “Jizerky všemi smysly” in a former half-timbered agricultural settlement. It complements the trail themes with a natural science exhibition. Check the visitor centre’s current opening information before you travel.
Historic Landscape and Architecture
The Clam-Gallasovská obora was established in the mid-19th century and covered an area of 5,500 hectares. Stone posts and deer leaps have been preserved. Architectural history is also represented by specific examples: traditional chalets of the so-called Upper Lusatian house type have been preserved in Oldřichov v Hájích, including houses No. 5 and No. 330 in Filipka. The obora and the chalets represent different historical perspectives: a large-scale estate and traditional residential architecture. If you appreciate regional building styles and traces of the historic landscape as well as nature trails, you can include both themes in your travel plans.
Getting There and Planning Your Route
Oldřichov v Hájích railway station is on railway line 037. Viničná cesta starts at Oldřichov v Hájích railway stop and ends in Hejnice. If you plan this route, factor in the endpoint when planning your day and check current transport connections before travelling. This way, the destination is part of your planning just as much as the starting point.
