Černousy combines architectural history with a variety of natural features: Dubový rybník and the Meandry Smědé protected area. Zámecký dvůr recalls the former administration of the Frýdlant estate, while the pond and river landscape draw attention to water and habitats. This range of attractions can help you decide which interests you want to shape your stay.

Architectural History and Cultural Monuments

Count Filip Josef Clam-Gallas had Zámecký dvůr Černousy built in 1793, probably on the site of a similar older building. It served as an administrative centre for the northern part of the Frýdlant estate. The complex has been a listed cultural monument since 1958. The ensemble thus combines a clearly defined administrative purpose with a long history as a monument.

The two granaries also tell different stories about how the complex has been used. One was converted into a covered riding arena. The other was turned into a multipurpose hall, which was named the 2015 Monument of the Year for the Liberec Region. The buildings thus illustrate two different developments within the complex: a new use for one granary and an award-winning hall in the other.

Another architectural landmark is the late Gothic Church of St. Lawrence in Ves (Černousy). It offers a different perspective from Zámecký dvůr: the church is defined by its late Gothic classification, while the former administrative function of the manor and the granaries’ later uses take centre stage at the estate. Those interested in architectural history will find a range of different aspects here, rather than a focus on just one period.

Pond and Protected River Landscape

Dubový rybník in Černousy covers 12 hectares and is one of the largest and oldest ponds in the Frýdlantsko region. It is accessible at any time and free of charge. This is easy to take into account when planning, as you do not need to schedule your visit around admission hours. Exceptionally large pedunculate and red oaks grow along the dam. The pond’s size and standing among the ponds of the Frýdlantsko region, as well as the trees along the dam, are both highlights.

The Meandry Smědé protected area has a different focus. It preserves a stretch of river with a natural riverbed, developing meanders and oxbow lakes. It also protects forest, aquatic, wetland and floodplain ecosystems with near-natural communities, as well as numerous legally protected plant and animal species. The focus is therefore not only on the course of the river, but also on the various habitats associated with it. For nature lovers, the main difference from Dubový rybník is that this area centres on a stretch of river and its ecosystems.
