The Libchava Stream flows through Volfartice; Radečský kopec rises 560 metres above sea level and is the highest point in the surrounding area. Together, these two features offer a first impression of the range of things to discover here: you can explore the landscape and the area's rich architectural and craft history. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Volfartice, you can base your choice on whether you are mainly interested in local history, the landscape, or both.

Church and pilgrimage site

The Church of St Peter and Paul is a single-nave building. A four-sided bell tower was added later; the complex also includes a rectangular, ground-level sacristy. The church stands on the site of a former cemetery surrounded by a wall. Its description thus connects the building's design with the historic character of its setting.

A well-maintained Marian pilgrimage site stands next to the church. It offers a separate religious point of interest alongside a visit to the church. If you plan to visit, it is best to check access in advance.

Fortress, chateau and routes

A Renaissance fortress stands on a rise northwest of the church. It was probably built around 1540 and served as a manor house until 1663. The construction date is therefore approximate, while 1663 marks the end of its documented role as a manor house. The fortress raises two distinct historical questions: when it was probably built and how long it served this function.

Volfartice Chateau is about 350 metres from a yellow-marked hiking trail and cycle route No. 3056. Check the current trail markings before setting out.

Ceramics and further architectural history

The “Hera” ceramics factory in Volfartice produced ceramic tableware for household and kitchen use. The products mentioned included brown pots and jugs, flowerpots, lidded casseroles, jugs with white interiors, chamber pots, and baking and pudding moulds. These examples show the breadth of production at the time: from vessels for the kitchen and home to moulds for baking and cooking.

The local museum houses several moulds for the so-called Volfartice ceramics. If you would like to see this collection, check visiting arrangements in advance. Volfartice 68 also offers a glimpse into the area's architectural history: the building is a two-storey structure, predominantly timber-framed, dating from the first half of the 19th century; its gable is decorated with slate. Together with the church and Renaissance fortress, it represents buildings from different periods and with different functions, while ceramic production offers another way to explore local history.
