Kravaře V Čechách offers a range of themes for a visit: a signposted route through the surrounding area, a protected historic village centre and seasonal swimming facilities. Liščí stezka combines exercise with stops and village conservation areas; the market square, church and chapel offer different points of interest. You can plan your trip around specific interests rather than reducing all the sights to a single theme.
Liščí stezka: route and stops
Liščí stezka is 5.4 kilometres long and runs through the area around Kravaře in Bohemia and Rané. It is signposted along its entire length and divided into several sections suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and people with pushchairs. The total length describes the route as a whole; its division into sections is another feature of the path. The eight listed stops include animal figures, a bird-feeding corridor with a heron, and a stop at the water sprite.
The route’s course through the historic village centre is also part of its character: it passes partly through the Rané village conservation area and touches the Janovice village conservation area. Along the route, visitors can take in both the individual stops and protected village areas. If you are looking for a signposted route with specific points of interest, you will find both here, though no separate length is given for the sections mentioned.
Market square and local history
Kravaře has been protected as a village conservation area since 1995. A distinctive feature of the village scene is its triangular market square. The rear stone walls of barns and farm buildings have also been preserved and joined together, forming a rare surviving urban fortification. Two different elements thus stand side by side: the shape of the square and the connected stone walls that make up this unusual fortification.
Written records also reach far back in time. The records of Kravaře begin with a transaction from 1175 to 1178. Documents from the 13th century describe the place as a market centre and market town with market rights. This timeline distinguishes the early written records from later evidence of Kravaře’s market status.
Church and architectural details
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Kravaře is originally Gothic and is documented as early as 1384. Its present appearance was shaped by Baroque alterations between 1744 and 1749. Two clearly distinct dates can therefore be noted for the church: the early documentation of its Gothic origins and the later changes to its appearance through Baroque alterations.
Another specific architectural detail can be found at the cemetery Chapel of Our Lady of Help: a stone outdoor pulpit stands at its northern corner. Visitors interested in architecture can therefore take in this unusual feature as well as the history of the church.
Seasonal swimming facilities
Koupaliště Kravaře offers volleyball and nohejbal facilities as well as changing rooms, toilets and showers. Other facilities include climbing equipment for children, table tennis, basketball hoops, a trampoline, darts and billiards; refreshments are also available. This makes it quite different from the route and historic village sights: the focus here is on sports and swimming facilities.
Koupaliště operates seasonally. If you are planning a visit for a swim, check the opening period for your dates before travelling.
