Visitors considering Kozly U České Lípy as a destination will find a volcanically shaped landscape, tangible traces of local history and marked trails. These themes offer different ways to tailor your stay to your own interests in discovery.

Landscape and Geology

Part of the municipality of Kozly lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area; this protected-area designation does not apply to the entire municipality. For detailed route planning, it is advisable to check the protected-area boundaries. Kozel is a defining feature of the landscape and reaches an elevation of 598 metres. Kozly is also known for volcanic rock formations, including lava fields. Those who want to focus on the landscape will therefore find both a named hill and geological formations as specific points of interest.

Nature and Local History

A large-leaved lime tree stands beside house No. 109 in Kozly. It is estimated to be 675 years old; please treat the tree respectfully and bear in mind that its age is an estimate. Above Kozly stands a medieval stone reconciliation cross. It is 110 cm high and one of about ten surviving stone reconciliation crosses in the Česká Lípa District. Kozly thus offers both a notable natural feature and a regionally rare stone historical monument.

Chapel and Architectural History

The Chapel of Saint Procopius was built in 1820 by the farmer Stefan Wenzel. The mineralogist Franz Hocke, who was born in Kozly, donated an altarpiece of Saint Procopius to the chapel. The surviving architecture of a 19th-century house is also considered noteworthy to visitors. Architectural interest therefore extends beyond the chapel to encompass another facet of local history.

Hiking Trails Around Kozly

A green-marked hiking trail maintained by the Czech Tourist Club passes through Kozly. The reconciliation cross is beside a yellow-marked hiking trail. Another yellow-marked trail leads from Kozly towards Bořetín. These trails offer different reference points for finding your way on foot. As trail markings may change, check the signs before setting out.

Cycling Connections and Destinations

The regional route description, updated in February 2024, lists Cycle Route No. 211 as passing through Kozly between Dubá and Kamenický Šenov, then continuing to the border crossing near Rožany on the German border. The Kozly war memorial is beside this route. The description also lists Cycle Route No. 3086 as an alternative connection to Route 211 via Kvítkov, followed by local roads to Karba and Zahrádky. As a local cycle route, No. 3086 runs from Kozly to Holany. The described connections can therefore be distinguished by their stated destinations: Route 211 continues to Rožany, while Route 3086 leads to Holany and includes the connection via Kvítkov and local roads. Cycle route designations may change; check them before your ride.
