Líšný combines small sacred monuments with activities along the Jizera. This gives you a choice of different focuses when planning your trip: architecture and local history, routes for different types of use, or an annual pétanque tournament. The buildings range from the late Baroque chapel consecrated in 1777 to the monument to the victims of the First World War, erected in 1922.

Sacred Art and Local History

Kalvárie is located near the Líšný railway stop, which opened on 1 June 1924. It is considered a unique example of small-scale sacred sandstone architecture and dates to 1807. The originally polychrome ensemble consists of a cross and figures of the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist. The sandstone, colors and religious imagery make Kalvárie a specific point of reference for local art history.

The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is late Baroque and was consecrated in 1777. Its date therefore precedes the dating of Kalvárie to 1807. A yellow hiking trail from Líšný to Železný Brod runs alongside the chapel. This brings a clearly dated sacred building and a designated hiking route together in one place.

Another sacred monument is the cast-iron cross with the Corpus Christi. It stands on a stone sandstone pedestal, whose reliefs depict the Virgin Mary, Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Joseph. The cross was made in 1842 at the expense of Josef and Antonín Novotný of Líšný. The names of the patrons further connect the artwork to local history.

The monument to the victims of the First World War was erected in 1922. It now stands in the municipal cemetery, where it is the cemetery’s central landmark. The monument has been moved several times; its current location is therefore part of its history.

Natural Surroundings and Routes along the Jizera

Líšný is part of the Maloskalsko Nature Park, designated in 1997, and has belonged to the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area since 2002. These designations frame the local history and outdoor activities within a regional natural setting.

Marked cycle route No. 17, the Jizera Greenway, runs along the Jizera and through Líšný. It can be used by bicycle, inline skates or kick scooter, as well as on foot. Some sections can also be travelled by boat. When planning a boat trip, it is important to distinguish between the two: this option applies to individual sections, not necessarily the entire route.

The Greenway offers several ways to get around, while the yellow hiking trail beside the chapel provides a separate route option from Líšný to Železný Brod. The two routes can therefore be distinguished according to your planned focus: a cycle route along the Jizera or a hiking trail linked to the chapel’s location.

Events and Accommodation

Líšný OPEN is a pétanque tournament for teams of three, held annually in early August. The exact date varies each year; check it in advance if the tournament is to influence your travel dates. This distinguishes the recurring early-August period from a specific event date.

Galerka Líšný offers a bistro, boat rental on the Jizera, kick-scooter rental, a small gallery and affordable accommodation. If you are considering Galerka as a place to stay, you can include its rental options and bistro in your travel plans. Check availability for your dates if you plan to stay overnight.
