Hohendorf - Abaschin can be explored through two closely connected but distinct themes: landscape trails and local history. The spa trail runs through the Slavkovský les via Zádub-Závišín and continues to the prominent Podhorní vrch. Zádub-Závišín lies within the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. Thus, the protected area describes the landscape, while the spa trail refers to the route through the village towards the mountain. This distinction helps visitors experience the place not only through its landscape, but also through its historic sites.

Landscape and Trails

Podhorní vrch is the highest peak in the Tepelská vrchovina. It has two summits offering views of the surrounding landscape. Its status as the highest peak refers to the Tepelská vrchovina, while the views extend over the surrounding landscape. The mountain is also an extinct volcano and has been a nature reserve since 1997. These protected-area designations relate to different places: Zádub-Závišín lies within the protected landscape area, while the mountain has been a nature reserve since 1997. The views, volcanic origins, and nature reserve status show the mountain from different perspectives: landscape, geological history, and nature conservation. The spa trail continues towards this prominent destination; together, its description and the mountain’s features provide two concrete perspectives on an outing in the landscape.

Cycle Route 2284 reaches Zádub via a farm track and continues from there on a cycle path to Závišín. The different sections clearly distinguish this route from the spa trail: here, the connection between Zádub and Závišín is described; there, the route runs through Zádub-Závišín towards Podhorní vrch. For travel planning, you can therefore choose according to your focus: a connection between the two places or a landscape route towards the prominent mountain.

Cultural History in Závišín and Zádub

The Reconciliation Cross, also called Smírčí kříž, stands on the village green in Závišín, in a triangular park opposite the war memorial. It is listed as a protected cultural heritage object. Its relocation is also part of its history: the cross was originally found in a roadside ditch on the road to Milhostov, then restored and moved to the village green. Its current location opposite the war memorial and its former findspot by the road mark two specific stages in the cross’s local history.

The former Hohendörfer Höhe café stood on Zádubská výšina in the cadastral area of Zádub, but the building no longer survives. It was a destination for walks taken by the first spa guests. Unlike the Reconciliation Cross, whose relocation and present place in the village draw attention to the object itself, the café tells the story of a former excursion destination that no longer stands.

The golf course also adds a spatial dimension: part of the nearby course extends into the cadastral area of Zádub-Závišín; the neighboring golf club is called Royal Golf Club Mariánské Lázně. This connection adds another perspective on the area around the village to the themes of trails and cultural heritage.
