The Castle Park and Its Bat Nature Trail
Kynžvart Castle Park is an extensive English-style landscaped park covering 293 hectares. Of this, 245 hectares are administered by the castle; this figure therefore refers to part of the total area. The park can be visited independently throughout the year and all day long. You do not need to join a guided tour to visit; however, check the local access rules before your visit. The castle park is also home to a 1.3-kilometre bat nature trail, designed as a virtual game for mobile devices. The game was introduced in 2016. If you want to use the digital offering, check its current availability in advance.
Springs in the Protected Landscape Area
The Kynžvartské kyselky nature trail is located in the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. It starts 1.5 kilometres southeast of Lázně Kynžvart, on a side road in the direction of Valy. Along the trail, the Liščí springs are enclosed by two square wooden structures. Another spring, Richard, can be drawn from at the drinking pavilion in the middle of the spa park. Before your visit, check whether drawing water there is possible.
Castle, Church and Marian Column
Kynžvart Castle is a Neoclassical summer residence associated with the Metternich family. The parish church of St. Margaret was rebuilt after the fire of 1865; construction began in 1869, and the church was consecrated in 1870. The Marian Column stands in the square in the lower part of the park. It bears a stone Madonna and Child; the Baroque statue dates from 1709. The date refers to the statue. The years mark different events: the fire in 1865, the start of the rebuilding in 1869 and the church’s consecration in 1870.
Exploring on Foot and by Bicycle
The romantic ruins of Kynžvart Castle lie above the town and are best reached on foot via a forest path. Cycle route 2253 connects the cycling routes’ starting point at the cemetery in Mariánské Lázně with Lázně Kynžvart railway station; the station is listed as kilometre 0. The distance figures for the nature trails also refer to different things: the bat nature trail in the castle park is 1.3 kilometres long, while the figure of 1.5 kilometres indicates the location of the start of Kynžvartské kyselky southeast of Lázně Kynžvart. This makes it easy to distinguish the trail length from the location of its starting point. When looking for a hotel in Lázně Kynžvart, you can use these themes to decide whether the park and landscape, the springs or the area’s architectural history should shape your stay.
