A cycle route runs through Zdobín, while dense pine forests rich in wild berries cover most of the municipal area. When planning your stay, you can explore nature and outdoor activities as well as local crafts and history. The town also has some distinctive attractions, including a garden that is open year-round and a traditional fair whose 2026 edition is dated.

Forest, Water and Garden

Pine forests almost completely surround the built-up area. For those interested in the landscape, the setting is clear: forest is not limited to a few spots but covers most of the municipal area. Two named water features add to this picture. The Zdobínský potok stream rises in Zdobín. The Baliharka spring lies in a nearby meadow and is one of the five springs of the Bystřice River. The stream originates in the village, while Baliharka is also part of the Bystřice’s source area.

The Sbírková zahrada Zdobín offers another way to experience nature. The garden is classified as a certified natural garden and is open year-round. Its diverse collection includes trees, shrubs and perennials. Alongside the expansive forest landscape, visitors can explore this specific garden and its plant collection. When planning your stay around these features, you can choose between a larger landscape and a garden with a variety of plant species.

Cycling Route and Sandstone at Ontário

The cycle route runs through Zdobín. Another destination for outdoor activity is Ontário near Zdobín, a sandstone bouldering area. Check climbing conditions and any restrictions separately before visiting.

Parking at the U Tučků inn is described as an option for approaching Ontário. From there, follow a path on foot for about 0.5 km into the forest. As local parking or land-use conditions may change, check them in advance. You can also reach Ontário from Miletínské lázně via tourist route 04 towards Zdobín. Check the route markings before setting out. The two described approaches differ in their starting points: one begins at the inn and gives an approximate walking distance; the other leads from Miletínské lázně towards Zdobín via a numbered route.

Craftsmanship and Local History

One early date in the village’s history is 1261, when Zdobín belonged to the Teutonic Order. An entry from 1657 reports that during the Thirty Years’ War the village was burned to the ground. These accounts describe different periods in the past: its early history of ownership and a later wartime destruction.

The development of local crafts can also be traced through different periods. Josef Kynčl, a bead maker trained in Vienna, began the bead-making trade in Zdobín in 1862. Home weaving was also widespread in the 19th century, including the weaving of Kalmuk. Around 1900, bead production reached its peak, and beads were blown in every house. In 1931, the production of glass Christmas ornaments replaced the previously declining bead industry. This sequence runs from home weaving and bead-making to a later form of glasswork.

The Fair as a Dated Event

The traditional folk-craft fair was held for the 20th time on 16 May 2026. At that edition, traditional crafts were demonstrated; suckling pig, sausages and other food, as well as beer, were also available. The demonstrations and food offerings refer to the 2026 edition. If you plan to visit the fair on a later trip, check the dates and programme in effect at that time.
