VĂtÄznĂĄ combines a forested landscape with a protected sandstone formation, an educational trail and churches with different architectural histories. This lets you consider nature, pilgrimage history and church architecture as distinct themes for your trip.
Forest, Sandstone and Pilgrimage History
More than half of VĂtÄznĂĄâs cadastral area is forested. One protected rock formation in VĂtÄznĂĄ is SluÄĂ kameny. It consists of layers of sandstone with varying resistance and has numerous fissures. Fissures are cracks in the rock; together with the different sandstone layers, they describe the geological structure of the formation. The forest coverage refers to the entire cadastral area, whereas SluÄĂ kameny refers to a single protected formation. This places the landscape scale alongside the geological detail: the area describes VĂtÄznĂĄ as a whole, while the layers and fissures describe the structure of this one formation.
The MariĂĄnskĂ© poutnĂ mĂsto in VĂtÄznĂĄ lies in pine forests away from the main paths and once attracted processions. The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary at the pilgrimage site was built in 1893 from yellowish sandstone on the slope above the spring. Here, the former procession tradition meets a church building described in specific terms.
Churches in HuntĂĆov and KoclĂ©Ćov
The Neo-Gothic Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in HuntĂĆov dates from 1898 to 1907. It is used for cultural events; the programme may change. If you would like to include a particular cultural event in your stay, check the current programme in advance.
In KoclĂ©Ćov, the parish church of Saint Wenceslas stands on the site of an original Gothic church dating from 1359, which was destroyed during the Thirty Yearsâ War. The parish churchâs tower has a square ground plan and two storeys. This place thus brings together a clearly describable architectural feature and the history of the earlier church building.
Educational Trail and Cycling Route
For a walk, the Lesem KrĂĄlovstvĂ educational trail is a clearly defined option, measuring four kilometres and featuring seven stations. It is marked with blue and yellow hiking signs. Its length and number of stations help you gauge the scale of the route; check the markings on site before setting off.
A cycling route is also specified: Cycle Route 5 passes through KoclĂ©Ćov. From KoclĂ©Ćov, it returns to PilnĂkov via Cycle Route 4087. If you plan to take this route, check the route conditions before setting out.
Another Activity
A gym is available for hire at the Sportcentrum KoclĂ©Ćov. If you plan to use the gym, ask about the rental terms in advance, as they may change.
