Stupná offers visitors several distinct points of interest: a protected natural monument, the Church of St Mary Magdalene with its cemetery complex, and the Zlatnice chapel and Stations of the Cross. Natural features, sacred architecture and past religious use each provide a different focus. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to first consider whether you want to centre your stay mainly around Strž or the sacred sites. This makes it easier to explore Stupná according to your interests, without turning it into a fixed itinerary.

Strž: spring areas and spring snowflakes

The Strž ve Stupné Nature Monument protects spring areas and natural ravines; spring snowflakes also grow there. Thus, both specific terrain features and a particular plant species form part of the natural heritage. Visitors are asked not to pick or dig up spring snowflakes. If you are interested in the plant, leaving it where it grows is part of a respectful visit.

Church of St Mary Magdalene

The Church of St Mary Magdalene is a separate cultural point of interest. The complex includes a cemetery enclosure, a mortuary and a central cemetery cross. Alongside the church building itself, these three additional features are part of the site. Those interested in sacred architecture can therefore view the church complex as an ensemble, rather than focusing only on the church building. The cemetery features and central cross offer a different architectural perspective from the small chapels at the stations of the Zlatnice Stations of the Cross.

A service schedule for the church, updated on 10 April 2019, listed only pilgrimage Masses. If attending a service is important to you, check the current arrangements in advance.

Zlatnice Chapel and Stations of the Cross

Zlatnice Chapel is located in Stupná. It stands at former gold-mining sites and was once a pilgrimage destination. The Zlatnice Stations of the Cross are also in Stupná; they lead from the road to the pilgrimage Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Zlatnice. The individual stations consist of concrete pillars topped with small chapels. The chapel and the route can be distinguished by their different features: the chapel has a historical connection to gold mining and past pilgrimages, while the repeated design of the concrete pillars is a prominent feature of the Stations of the Cross. The chapel’s history and the route’s architectural form thus offer two different ways to explore religious cultural heritage.

Routes towards Jerusalem and Pecka

A public path leads from Stupná towards Jerusalem; the old path may become harder to access later in the season. Check local conditions if you plan to use it. A red-marked hiking trail leads from Stupná towards Pecka; check the trail markings and conditions on site. The guidance differs in its focus: for the old path towards Jerusalem, the later part of the season is specifically relevant, while for Pecka, the trail markings and local conditions are the main considerations. This allows you to choose a route based on your travel dates and destination.
