The Řež meander, shaped by the Vltava, rocky slopes and nature trails exploring the river landscape and the history of research give Husinec several distinct points of interest for a trip. At U Pasáčka Park, the views of the river take centre stage, while the nature trails introduce different aspects of the surrounding area. You can decide which will shape your stay based on your personal interests—whether the riverbank, rocks, plants or culture.

The Vltava, the meander and the rocky landscape

The Řež meander, formed by the Vltava, is part of the landscape around Husinec. U Pasáčka Park offers views of the opposite bank and the flowing Vltava. Nearby is the Větrušické rokle National Nature Reserve, with protected rocky and dry grassland ecosystems, heathland and oak forests shaped by a warm climate. Behind the ÚJV complex, rocky slopes rise 90 to 100 metres above the level of the Vltava. The rocky steppes there feature a varied mosaic structure. The landscape thus stretches from the bend in the river to striking rock formations rising above it.

The slope above Husinec is home to a very well-preserved stand of Czech star-of-Bethlehem. Yellow alyssum and mountain alyssum also grow on the bare rocks; flowering times depend on the season. These specific botanical features add another dimension to the rocky landscape.

Riverside paths and research themes

For a walk along the river, take the “Školní naučná stezka Údolím Vltavy” (School Nature Trail through the Vltava Valley). Near Husinec-Řež, it passes through a short stretch of the Vltava Valley and follows a rocky path along the riverbank. Trail conditions may have changed, so check the current conditions and signage on site before setting out.

The “Naučná stezka prof. Čestmíra Šimáně” (Prof. Čestmír Šimáně Nature Trail) explores the history of the research institute, its founder and the municipality of Husinec. The trail also provides public access to part of a natural area that was previously fenced off. It is one of the nature trails in the vicinity of the research institute.

The two trails have different focuses: the “Školní naučná stezka Údolím Vltavy” centres on the riverbank and the rocky nature of the path. The “Naučná stezka prof. Čestmíra Šimáně” combines themes relating to the municipality and the history of research with access to the natural area.

Research, an exhibition and remembrance

The exhibition at the “Jaderné muzeum ÚJV Řež” (ÚJV Řež Nuclear Museum) includes historical instruments and equipment used in materials research, facilities from the development of radiopharmaceuticals, and an extensive dosimeter collection. It also features curiosities from recent history: radioactive tableware, radioactive toothpaste and home radon baths.

The “Kaple sv. Václava” (Chapel of St. Wenceslas) is an important place in the municipality and commemorates the end of the war and peace. The chapel and the exhibition focus on different things: local remembrance on the one hand, and research equipment, radiopharmaceuticals and dosimetry on the other.

Ferry landing and practical information

The “Husinec–Řež” ferry landing is at the end of V Luhu Street. The ferry staff can assist with transporting bicycles, pushchairs and people with reduced mobility. If you plan to use the landing, check the latest service information before travelling.
