The local themes in Brázdim range from early traces of settlement to natural history, local commemorations and festival traditions. Particularly prominent are the find at Zlatý kopec, the Kuchyňka hill and the historic sites in Starý Brázdim. These themes differ both in their historical periods and in what they tell us about the area: archaeological finds, a natural monument, and forms of commemoration and celebration.

Zlatý kopec and Early Settlement

Zlatý kopec lies between the municipalities of Brázdim, Přezletice and Veleň. The find at the hill is considered the oldest evidence of settlement in Europe. This makes it a clear focus for travellers interested in early settlement. Excavations uncovered the remains of large huts, hearths, bone refuse and discarded tools.

The finds include both structural traces and material left behind. Huts and hearths are found alongside bone refuse and tools, bringing together different types of archaeological evidence. The specific composition of the finds adds tangible details to the site's far-reaching historical significance.

Kuchyňka: Natural Monument and Find Site

Kuchyňka hill lies within the cadastral area of Brázdim in the Praha-východ District. Its designation as a natural monument took effect on 1 June 1997. Kuchyňka is also an important geological, palaeontological and archaeological find site. The date of its designation gives the natural monument a clearly defined historical context.

Its special features include fossils from the Mesozoic sea and a settlement site of Aurignacian people. Evidence from very different periods is found here side by side: fossils from a Mesozoic sea and traces of a settlement site dating to the Aurignacian. For anyone interested in both natural and cultural history, Kuchyňka offers a distinctive focus that differs from the find at Zlatý kopec.

Local History in Starý Brázdim

A park was laid out around the monument and bell tower in Starý Brázdim. The bell tower is a small brick structure. It was built after the former wooden bell tower collapsed in 1834. Its construction history shows a specific change: a brick structure replaced the earlier wooden building.

Historically, celebrations commemorating the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic were held in the park every year on 28 October. Thus, in addition to the bell tower's construction history, the park also has a history of commemorative use. 28 October was the recurring date of these celebrations.

The Staročeské máje Tradition

The “Staročeské máje” in Brázdim offer a different cultural perspective. The maypoles used in the tradition also include birches. A musical procession visits houses in front of which maypoles have been erected. The festivities conclude with a dance and a raffle for the large maypole. The event brings together maypoles, music, house visits and festivities, making the tradition quite distinct from the area's archaeological and natural-history themes.

When choosing a thematic focus, Brázdim offers several possibilities: early settlement at Zlatý kopec, natural and archaeological history around Kuchyňka, and the architectural history, commemorations and customs of Starý Brázdim. These different themes give the place more than one historical perspective.
