The international Greenway Praha–Vídeň cycling route passes through Křížkový Újezdec. This gives the village a specific connection for travellers who want to take the cycling route, village history and landscape into account when making their choice. Local points of interest include the first documented mention in 1349, the monument near Na Křížkách and the wooded Okrouhlík in the surrounding area. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider whether the route, historical traces or landscape should be the focus of your stay.

Cycling route and getting around

The Greenway Praha–Vídeň is an international cycling route that passes through the village. For getting around by road, the only main connection is important: it leads northeast towards Radějovice and Olešky, and runs east through neighbouring Petříkov onwards to Velké Popovice. Neither a railway line nor a siding runs through or near Křížkový Újezdec; there is also no airfield there. The cycling route and the road directions described are therefore two different points of reference for your planning. When planning your journey, check these directions against your own route.

Village history and monument

The first documented mention of the village dates to 26 November 1349. Křížkový Újezdec and Čenětice were founded as agricultural villages of serfs: small farmsteads and buildings were grouped around village squares on a through road. This settlement history provides a specific historical context for choosing the area. Another point of interest is the monument on the rise near the hamlet of Na Křížkách. It has stood there since 1931 and bears a dedication to the Hussite people. The historical span thus extends from the first mention to the monument; its dedication adds an explicitly Hussite theme to the historical context.

Forest, views and stream

The Okrouhlík forest provides a distinct landscape focus. Its 483-metre summit is the highest point in the area; from there, the expansive view reaches towards the Sázava valley and in the direction of Benešovsko and Neveklovsko. The forest and high point, with their specified viewing directions, therefore provide a landscape theme alongside the village’s historical features. The Kamenický (Čakovický) stream also rises in Křížkový Újezdec. The summit and the stream’s source offer two different connections with nature: a view from higher ground and the source of a named watercourse in the village.

Events and choosing accommodation

Local events may also play a part in choosing when to travel. The Volunteer Fire Brigade holds social events and fire brigade competitions for children and adults every year. Check the specific dates separately if you would like to plan your trip around one of these events. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can use these themes to help you decide: the Greenway as a cycling connection, the historical traces or the landscape around Okrouhlík. The event date may be just as important as deciding which of these focuses you want to shape your stay.
