Čestlice can be explored from two different perspectives: Aquapalace Praha represents a world of water and saunas, while the church, sculpture, and memorial bring the area’s history to life. When choosing a destination, you can first consider which focus you would like your stay to have.
Water World and Saunas
Aquapalace Praha is located in the Průhonice–Čestlice commercial zone and can be reached via the D1 motorway, exit D6. If you are travelling by car, check the current signs and traffic conditions before setting out. The water world covers 9,150 m²; the sauna world is divided into Finnish saunas, Roman baths, and outdoor saunas. If you are deciding between the water and sauna worlds, the size of one area and the layout of the other offer different points of reference for your choice. Plan your visit around the area that interests you, and check the latest operating details in advance.
Church and Local History
The Church of St. Procopius is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. A small church already stood on this site in the 14th century; the present church building was constructed largely between 1863 and 1864. This means that the history of the site and the construction period of the present building belong to two different eras. This distinction is useful for understanding the site’s cultural history: the church site dates back to the 14th century, while most of the present building dates from the 19th century. This makes it possible to view local history through an earlier church and the later building without conflating the two into a single construction phase.
Sculpture and Memorial
The statue of St. Wenceslas offers another way to explore local art. It is a Baroque sandstone sculpture from 1785, standing in a triangular, park-like square on Václava Vaniše Street. The artwork and its setting can be considered separately: Baroque, sandstone, and 1785 describe the statue; the triangular shape and park-like design refer to the square. If you are interested in art within the local landscape, this combination offers a concrete perspective on both design and location.
Another historical landmark is the memorial to the heroes of the First World War. It stands at the intersection of the roads leading towards Dobřejovice and Říčany. Its location helps with orientation, while its name identifies the historical subject it commemorates. Together, these provide two different points of reference: what the memorial commemorates and the road junction where it stands.
The historical sites can be distinguished by their function: the church points to an older religious site with a later building, the statue to Baroque sculpture, and the memorial to remembrance of the First World War. This comparison offers different chronological and thematic approaches to local history. When choosing cultural sites, you can consider whether you are more interested in architectural history, sculpture, or commemorative culture.
