Pustověty offers two distinct focal points for planning a trip: the landscape of the Křivoklátské forests and a historic village centre with a mill and farmsteads. The village lies on the edge of the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area and in the midst of the Křivoklátské forests. The deeply incised, gorge-like valley of the Rakovnický potok is another feature. The picturesque Pustovětské Valley is one of the municipality’s landscape assets. This means the natural landscape and the village’s history can be considered as two separate themes for a stay.
Landscape and Village Character
The historic village centre preserves a group of large farms and agricultural farmsteads on a raised spur above a meander of the Rakovnický potok. A meander is a bend in a river; together with the raised terrain, it illustrates the relationship between topography and settlement patterns. For travellers interested in the development of village structures over time, the focus is not just on a single building: the farmsteads, ridge and river bend form a cohesive historic village landscape.
Mill, Art and Remembrance
The former watermill No. 7 stands in the village centre. It was probably originally late Baroque and was remodelled in the Neoclassical style. A substantial part of its historic technical equipment has been preserved in the mill room. The building’s history and its technical equipment are two distinct aspects of the former mill building: its original late Baroque classification is qualified as only probable; the Neoclassical remodelling was a further phase in the building’s history.
Pustověty is also home to a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1723 and created by M. B. Braun. The war memorial was erected in the 1920s and is a prominent feature of the village green. The two structures make different statements: the statue belongs to religious sculpture, while the memorial is an expression of public remembrance. Visitors focusing on local history can thus distinguish between art history and memorial culture on the village green.
Routes and Activities
Several cycling and hiking trails pass through Pustověty. The village also has a red-marked KČT hiking route and the “Vůně dýmu a jehličí” nature trail. Conditions on the red-marked route may vary seasonally; check current trail conditions before setting out. The different route designations offer options for planning a visit that includes cycling or hiking alongside the historic village landscape.
The multi-purpose sports field offers another kind of activity. Its facilities include goals for small-sided football, volleyball and tennis posts with nets, and a basketball setup. The field is available to local residents and visitors from elsewhere; reservations or local conditions may apply. If you are looking for more than just hiking or cycling options, you can also make the sports field a focus of your stay.
Getting Here and Choosing Accommodation
The village has a Pustověty station on the single-track, non-electrified line No. 174 between Beroun and Rakovník. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable for your travel date.
When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide what you want to focus on: should your trip centre mainly on the historic village centre, the cycling and hiking trails, the sports field or travelling by train? Then choose accommodation to suit your daily plans. This way, your choice reflects your own priorities rather than turning the village’s different attractions into a fixed itinerary.
