Rakovník brings together late Gothic architecture, exhibition venues, brewing traditions, and opportunities for walks and cycling. Planning is especially straightforward for the 14-kilometre cycling route to Křivoklát, which starts at Husovo náměstí. In the town itself, cultural landmarks range from the Church of St. Bartholomew to a gallery and a synagogue.

Architecture and Building History

The Church of St. Bartholomew is a late Gothic, three-aisled stone building with a richly decorated interior. The bell tower stands right beside it; built in 1495, it houses two bells. Together, they offer two distinct architectural highlights: the church and the separate tower. Vysoká brána adds to the picture as a 46-metre-high town tower that now serves as a lookout tower. As access arrangements may vary, check access before your visit.

Rakovník Synagogue was built in 1763, is a Jewish cultural monument, and is now used as a concert hall. Its current use sets it apart from the religious buildings. If you are planning to attend a concert, check the current programme.

Museum, Gallery and Exhibition Venues

The main building of Muzeum Rakovník houses permanent exhibitions, two halls for temporary projects, a lecture hall, and an outdoor geological exhibition at Parkan. This brings together long-term exhibitions, changing projects, and an outdoor focus on geology. The main building is currently undergoing renovation; check access arrangements before your visit.

The Rabas Gallery offers a different way to experience art. Its permanent exhibition features works by landscape painter Václav Rabas, including “Vzpomínka na maminku” and “Včelařské zátiší”. If you plan to visit the gallery, check the current opening hours.

Lechnýřovna is a protected cultural monument used as an exhibition space. Lectures and other events may also be held there, but visitor numbers are limited. Bear this limit in mind when planning to attend an event.

Cycling and Walks

The Rakovník–Křivoklát cycling route starts at Husovo náměstí and runs along the Rakovnický potok. It is 14 kilometres long, rated easy, and suitable for families with children. Signage and surface conditions may change, so check both before your ride. The area around Rakovník is also well suited to walks and cycling in an attractive natural landscape.

Brewing Traditions and Events

Rakovník’s brewing tradition includes a brewery founded in 1454, associated with the local Bakalář beer. This connects a historical legacy with a local product, without requiring a brewery visit to be part of your plans.

Rakovník is hosting the 2026 edition of Popelka Rakovník, a national showcase of amateur theatre for children. Rakovnické cyklování is also a cycling event held in Rakovník, featuring road, mountain, and recreational cycling. If an event is determining your travel dates, check the dates for each event.
