Between two old lime trees stands the Chapel of Our Lady; about three metres to the southwest, in front of its entrance façade, is the granite wayside shrine Boží muka. Their close proximity makes two distinct forms of sacred architecture tangible in Vrančice. There are also two nature trails, each offering its own way to experience the landscape: a circular walking route with rest areas and information features, and a trail with six interactive stations. You can tailor your visit to your interest in local history, architectural styles or exploring nature.
Village History and Architectural Styles
The first written mention of Vrančice dates from 1253. At the time, the settlement of Wrantsicz belonged to the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. The year marks the settlement’s recorded mention, not the construction date of the chapel, which is dated to the first half of the 19th century. The early history of the village and the building’s history therefore belong to clearly distinct periods.
The protected property comprises the Chapel of Our Lady and its associated land. The chapel stands at the centre of Vrančice’s irregularly laid-out village green, between two old lime trees. Its small rectangular structure, with a roof turret, is dated to the first half of the 19th century. About three metres to the southwest, in front of the entrance façade, stands the granite column shrine Boží muka. The year 1781 is inscribed on its base. The upper niche chapel has recessed panels featuring a shallow relief of a Latin cross. A village green is a central open space in a village.
Nature Trails and Landscape
The Naučná stezka “Vrančická draha” is a circular walking route through the landscape around Vrančice. Rest areas and information features focus on the local nature and landscape, including wet meadows, pastures and a water habitat with ponds. The circular route combines walking with information about different landscape features. Check the trail conditions locally before planning your visit.
The Milín–Vrančice nature trail offers a different experience: it is located at the 608-metre summit of Vraneč and has six stations with interactive nature-related features. Families with children can explore nature and enjoy fun activities there. When choosing between the routes, consider what you are looking for: a circular trail with rest areas and landscape information, or interactive nature stations at the summit. Some features of the trail may change; if a particular station is important to you, check its current status before travelling.
