Netřebice can be viewed through three distinct interests: an educational trail through the village and its surroundings, the architecture of individual buildings, and the history of a pond system in the wider area. This mix can help you choose a destination: you can decide whether a route, local architectural history or a broader regional landscape connection should be the deciding factor for your stay.

Educational Trail and Local Connections

The Po stopách víly Netřebky educational trail runs through Netřebice and the surrounding area. It was established in 2014. This means there is a named themed trail whose geographical scope covers both the village and its surroundings. The buildings offer a different focus: here, the emphasis is on individual structures, their form and their historical period. When choosing where to stay, this means weighing up a route through the village and its surroundings against Netřebice’s architecture. The year 2014 complements the earlier historical dates in the village’s history.

Buildings and Their Dates

The bell tower in Netřebice is a two-storey masonry structure with a bell-shaped roof and a lantern. It probably dates from the mid-19th century; its façades and roof were restored in 2012. The gateway to Farmstead No. 7 stands east of the village square and is a Late Baroque gateway from the mid-19th century. Both buildings are therefore associated with the same period: the bell tower’s date is probable, while the gateway is also identified as Late Baroque. A small Chapel of the Virgin Mary is also among the buildings in Netřebice.

Local History from the Middle Ages to the 16th Century

Netřebice is one of the oldest settlements in the Nymburk region and was founded in the 11th or 12th century. In 1185, the village belonged to the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. According to tradition, Alžběta, the wife of Prince Fridrich, gave Netřebice to the Knights Hospitaller in 1186. In the 16th century, the village was owned by Poděbrady Castle. The historical timeline therefore spans the founding of the village, events in the 12th century and its ownership history in the 16th century. Together with the buildings dating from the 19th century, this offers a perspective across several historical periods.

Rybník Blato in the Wider Region

The historic Rybník Blato pond lay in the wider area around Netřebice. At 996 hectares, it was historically the largest pond in Bohemia and belonged to the pond system in the Poděbrady and Nymburk area. Its main dam was on the road between Kouty and Netřebice. These details show two aspects at once: the size of the body of water and its place in a larger pond system. The focus thus shifts from individual buildings in the village to a historic landscape in the region.

Train Travel and Accommodation Planning

Netřebice has no rail connection; the nearest railway station is in Dymokury. If you are considering Netřebice as an overnight destination, take this distinction into account when planning your journey. This allows you to choose where to stay based not only on historical and cultural interests but also on your travel arrangements.
