Střehom is a village heritage zone dating back to the Middle Ages. The boundary of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area runs through the village. There is also Plakánek Valley, which stretches from Střehom past Obora Pond to Kost Castle. This means that planning a trip here centres on the historic village and paths through a landscape surrounded by rocks. When looking for holiday accommodation, you can choose Střehom based on whether you are particularly interested in traditional architecture, a marked walk or a designated cycling route.

Farmsteads and the Mill

The village’s character is shaped by timber farmsteads with upper floors dating from the late 18th century. The farmsteads at house numbers 1, 3, 7 and 11 are protected as cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The numbers therefore identify individual protected farmsteads, while the architectural description covers the building style that characterises Střehom. This distinction is useful: the heritage zone describes Střehom as a village, while the four numbers identify individual protected farmsteads.

The timber watermill complex dates from 1516 and has a working mill wheel. The year refers to the mill complex, while the late 18th-century date refers to the upper floors of the farmsteads—two different historical details about different buildings. The mill also appeared in the fairy-tale film “S čerty nejsou žerty” as Petr Máchal’s mill. If you are interested in film history as well as architecture, this gives you another clearly identified point of interest in the village.

Walking through Plakánek Valley

The valley itself is surrounded by rocks and stretches from Střehom past Obora Pond to Kost Castle. The marked walking trail through the valley is for pedestrians only. From Kost Castle, a walk follows the red trail markers to Střehom, where it ends. Vesec is another suggested starting point: from there, follow the blue trail markers, which meet the red route in the valley. The route descriptions differ by starting point and trail markers—from Kost, follow red; from Vesec, follow blue at first until it joins the red route. In these descriptions, Střehom serves two roles: it lies at the start of the valley route described and is also the destination of the walk from Kost Castle. You can follow the route through the points mentioned: from the village past Obora Pond to Kost Castle.

A Designated Cycling Route

The Trosky–Kost–Malechovice cycling route passes through Střehom and lists the village as one of its stops. It is 42 km long and described as moderately difficult. The planning details also differ from those for the valley walk: for the walk, the route, trail markers and endpoint are the main details; for the cycling tour, they are the total distance and difficulty rating. If you are deciding between the two, you can use these different details: a marked walking route with a specified endpoint, or a cycling route with a stated length and difficulty level.
