At the weir on the Klejnárka, the water plunges down from a height of six metres between steep rock faces. This place represents the waterside landscape; Křížek, Kaplička and the Československá lípa svobody highlight other aspects. If you are planning a stay in Vodranty, you can first consider whether you are more interested in nature or local history.
Water on the Klejnárka and at Nový rybník
The Klejnárka stream flows through the Vodranty area. At the weir, the drop in the water level meets the steep rock faces. Locals often visit this spot for walks with children or dogs. As well as the watercourse, the weir’s use as a place for walks is therefore part of its character.
Nový rybník is another waterside spot. It lies southwest of Vodranty, on the border between the cadastral areas of Vodranty and Souňov. During the summer months, locals and residents of nearby communities used the pond for swimming. Water quality has deteriorated; this is attributed in particular to reduced water inflow and rotting deposits of leaves and branches from the surrounding mature trees. Check current conditions before planning to swim.
For orientation, it is worth distinguishing between these two places: at the weir, the waterfall and rock faces are the main features; at Nový rybník, it is the location southwest of the village and its former use for summer swimming. The information about water quality is particularly relevant when deciding whether to swim; past use does not indicate what conditions are like now.
Křížek: location, founding and restoration
Křížek stands at a crossroads about 200 metres beyond Vodranty in the direction of Močovice, in the shade of two mature lime trees. It dates from 1880 and was donated by Marie Vařečková of Vodranty. Its location and founding give the small monument specific local connections: it stands outside Vodranty in the direction of Močovice and is associated with a benefactor from the village.
Křížek was restored in spring 2018. The monument was cleaned, and the statue of Jesus Christ was regilded with gold leaf. The year 1880 relates to its founding, while 2018 marks the later restoration. This distinguishes the original work from the conservation work chronologically, without conflating them as a single event.
Kaplička and Československá lípa svobody
Kaplička probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. A footpath was laid from the road to the entrance doors of the bell tower. The cautious wording is important when it comes to dating: unlike Křížek, which has the specific date 1880, only a probable period is given here. The path is a separate feature, describing the connection from the road to the bell tower doors.
The Československá lípa svobody is also associated with two precisely dated plantings. It was planted in Vodranty in May 1920 and replanted at the same site on 28 October 1946. The dates therefore refer to an initial planting and a later replanting; the location confirms that both are associated with the same place.
The local history is reflected here in different kinds of dates: for Křížek, a specific year for its founding and a later restoration date; for Kaplička, a probable period; and for the lime tree, two planting dates. Together with the water on the Klejnárka, these offer different points of interest to guide your choice. For a stay focused on the landscape, the weir is a specific point of reference; those more interested in local history can explore the monuments mentioned here and their respective timelines.
