At Zbýšovský Pond, there are two beaches; at the same time, the church and the buildings of a former farmstead give the town its historic character. Zbýšov lies south of Čáslav in gently rolling countryside, on the southeastern edge of the Central Bohemian Region. The Autokemp Zbýšov offers cabins or tent pitches for overnight stays.

At Zbýšovský Pond

The southern beach is below the municipal office, and the northern one is by the Dejvid kiosk. Both have a gently sloping entry into the water. Beach conditions may change, so it is best to check the current situation before your visit.

Zbýšovský Pond is primarily used for fishing. Swimming is also possible, but at your own risk and responsibility. As it is a natural body of water, check for current bathing-water quality information and health warnings before travelling.

The historic pond system in Zbýšov included Zbýšovský Pond as well as the ponds Punčoška, Střevíček and Pilský. The pond therefore links today’s focus on beaches and fishing opportunities with a historical context that extends beyond it.

Architectural history in the town

Buildings Nos. 1 and 3 of the former farmstead are considered the oldest surviving structures in Zbýšov. The Church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist is Neo-Romanesque and dates from 1884; it was built by the Schwarzenberg master builder Marchetti. The term “Neo-Romanesque” refers to a Romanesque style revived in the 19th century. It classifies the church stylistically, whereas 1884 is the year this church building was constructed. This distinguishes the style from the specific date of construction. A farmstead is a complex of buildings used for agriculture. Buildings Nos. 1 and 3 therefore belong to the same former complex and should not be understood as historically independent houses within Zbýšov.

The church grounds include a mortuary, a cemetery wall with a gate, and the associated plots. These elements are listed as protected monuments. The church’s historical points of reference include its style, year of construction and master builder, while the former farmstead stands out for its two surviving buildings and their status as the oldest in Zbýšov.
