Křesetice combines a Gothic church with Baroque sandstone statues and gently rolling terrain. Kostel sv. Markéty dates from the 14th century, is considered the oldest building in the village and stands on a hill above Křesetice. Together with the other monuments and the landscape, it makes a destination for travellers who want to take cultural history and a rural setting into account when choosing where to visit.
Church and historic buildings
The protected complex of Kostel sv. Markéty comprises the church, a crypt, a mortuary, a perimeter wall with a gate and an access staircase. The ensemble therefore includes not only the church building but also burial sites and structural elements enclosing the site and providing access. Its cultural and historical significance lies not only in its Gothic architecture, but also in the relationship between these different components.
Another protected monument is Zámek čp. 1. It comprises a former fortress and a perimeter wall. Unlike the church, different types of buildings are the focus here: Kostel sv. Markéty is a Gothic church with an associated monument ensemble, while Zámek čp. 1 includes a former fortress. This allows two distinct aspects of the village’s history to be distinguished without presenting them as part of a single building history.
Baroque sandstone statues in the village
The Baroque heritage is also reflected in three sandstone statues. “Socha sv. Barbory” dates from 1720 and stands outside the village, behind it, near the sports field. “Socha sv. Šebestiána” dates from the first half of the 18th century and is located in the village centre near house no. 140. “Socha sv. Václava” dates from 1750 and stands on the road to Úmonín. A specific year is given for two statues, while a period is given for the third. Their locations also differ: outside the village, in the centre and on the road to Úmonín. These details help place the monuments both in time and in their respective settings.
Landscape of the Kutná Hora Plateau
Křesetice lies in the gently rolling terrain of the Kutná Hora Plateau. In general, the land rises towards the south and southwest. This perspective on the landscape complements the protected buildings and statues with another aspect to consider when choosing a destination. If you take the surroundings into account alongside cultural monuments when planning a trip, the plateau offers a specific point of reference. The description of the terrain characterises the village as a whole, while the individual monuments each have their own locations.
Getting there and finding your way
Road II/337 runs through Křesetice towards Uhlířské Janovice, Čáslav, Ronov nad Doubravou, Nasavrky and Skuteč. These destinations can help you orient yourself on a road map. Regular bus services run to the municipality of Křesetice. If you are travelling by bus, check the timetable in advance for your travel date, as routes and journey times may change. The road and bus services provide different points of reference for getting there: the road runs through Křesetice, while the bus information applies to the municipality. For specific planning, it is worth considering these details in light of your chosen mode of transport.
