Křečhoř combines a village character with a tangible historical connection: the village is closely linked to the Battle of Kolín. The church, memorial and themed cycling route offer different perspectives on architectural history, the history of the battle and the surrounding landscape. This gives a stay several points of interest, from the village centre to the commemoration of a historic event.

Village Centre and Village Layout

The village centre is characterised by spacious agricultural farmsteads. Its main axis connects the village square and the church, two key points in the local layout. This connection adds the village’s rural character to the picture of Křečhoř as a place associated with the history of the battle. Visitors interested in architecture and village layouts will find a different perspective here from the one offered by the monumental memorial: the farmsteads, square and church together reflect the structure of the village.

The Battle of Kolín and the Memorial

The Battle of Kolín took place on 18 June 1757 and is closely linked to Křečhoř. The Památník Bitvy u Kolína memorial provides a tangible focal point for this local history. Its location on a ridge near Křečhoř is as much a part of its character as its architecture: the monumental structure is made of Hořice sandstone and designed in the Neoclassical style. A newly built staircase provides access to the memorial.

The complex also includes an ossuary containing the remains of soldiers found there. The memorial site therefore comprises not only the monumental structure but also this tangible connection to human remains. The memorial and ossuary are distinct parts of the same complex.

Church of Božího těla and Other Cultural Monuments

The Church of Božího těla has an older architectural history than the Battle of Kolín. It dates back to a Gothic building from the early 14th century and was remodelled in 1846–1848 in the Late Empire style. Early Gothic sedilia and a sacrament house have been preserved in the presbytery. This brings together Gothic origins and a later remodelling, while the surviving features in the presbytery retain an early Gothic connection. The church grounds include a cemetery that is still in use, with graves and tombstones.

The hillfort site of Křečhoř is also listed as an immovable cultural monument. It adds another part of the village’s protected cultural heritage to its historical points of interest.

Cycle to the Memorial

The 20-kilometre cycling route “Cyklovýlet po stopách bitvy u Kolína” leads to the Battle of Kolín memorial near Křečhoř. From the memorial, the route offers panoramic views across the entire Polabí Plain; whether the panorama is visible depends on visibility conditions. The route thus combines a historical destination with views of the landscape. Road conditions and signage may change; check both before setting out.
