Lošany can be explored through a range of themes: the history of the Tvrz fortress, its religious buildings and the memory of historical conflicts. There is also a 41-kilometre cycling route that passes through the village. When planning a trip, you can choose between architectural history, places of remembrance and a bike ride, rather than reducing Lošany to a single attraction.

The Tvrz and Historical Sites

The Tvrz Lošany fortress is a square stone tower, 16.5 metres high. It probably dates from the second half of the 14th century and is currently privately owned. This cautious dating places the tower in an early period of the village’s history; its form and height also provide specific architectural details. In comparison, the Tvrz represents a substantially earlier building phase than St. George’s Church, which was not built until the late 19th century.

Another historical connection dates to 1757: the Battle of Kolín took place near Lošany. During the battle, a field hospital was set up in Lošany. These two details distinguish between the battle’s location in the surrounding area and a specific function within the village itself. Local history is thus connected both to the regional event and to the field hospital.

Church, Wayside Shrines and Remembrance

The Neo-Gothic Church of St. George was built in 1895–1896 by the architect Ludvík Lábler and consecrated on 16 July 1896. The construction period and consecration date mark two distinct steps: the building work spanned two years, while the precise consecration date falls on a single day. There are also two communal graves of fallen soldiers near the church.

Two Baroque wayside shrines also stand outside Lošany; they differ in their direction and date. Boží muka Kolovrat is located outside the village in the direction of Kolín and dates from the late 18th century. Boží muka P. Marie is located outside Lošany in the direction of Polní Voděrady; this wayside shrine dates from the 18th century. Visitors who include both in their travel plans can consider them as two separate religious structures in different directions, rather than as a single shared location.

The exhibition at the Památník tří odbojů offers another historical perspective. It covers the history of the Mašín family and three Czechoslovak resistance movements. In this way, a topic from more recent history complements the older buildings and places of remembrance. The exhibition is of particular interest to travellers who want to explore the history of resistance movements as well as architecture.

Landscape and Cycling Route

Lošany and Lošánky lie on opposite gentle slopes. Between them is a pond through which the Pekelský potok flows. This relationship between the villages adds a topographical perspective to the churches, tower and places of remembrance: the two villages face each other and are connected by the pond and stream.

The 41-kilometre cycling excursion “Cyklovýlet za Labskými vyhlídkami a údolím Polepky” follows a route through Lošany. The distance refers to the entire excursion; Lošany is one section of the route. For planning purposes, this is a different scale from a single visit to the village: the route offers a way to include Lošany in a longer bike ride. It was described in 2022; as road conditions can change, check them before setting out.

Which themes you focus on depends on whether you are more interested in architecture, history, places of remembrance or the cycling route. The Tvrz and the church represent distinctly different building periods; the wayside shrines are located outside Lošany in two different directions. Together, these features offer several separate points of interest for exploring the village, without needing to combine them into a set sightseeing itinerary.
