Hořešovice lies in the Zlonický potok valley, in the southern part of the Dolnooharská tabule. The stream is relatively clean. The valley and the village’s location in the Dolnooharská tabule give it a connection to the surrounding landscape; the village centre and historic buildings offer a different focus. Practical bus and cycle connections also help with travel planning.

Village square and church

The oldest built-up part of Hořešovice is clustered around a large village square. A monument to the victims of the First World War stands there. The historic centre thus brings together two distinct layers: the built form of the old village centre and the commemoration of those killed in the war. If you want to explore Hořešovice through its history, the square offers a thematic starting point before you turn your attention to the individual buildings.

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was originally built as a Gothic church in the 14th century. The protected complex includes the bell tower, the perimeter wall with its gate, the 1814 tomb and the associated grounds. Two points in time are represented side by side: the church’s period of construction and the specific date of the tomb. The protection covers an ensemble, not just the church building.

Other listed buildings

A chapel in Hořešovice and a cross on the road to Hořešovičky are also designated as architecturally valuable. Their designation differs from that of the church grounds: the church is identified as a protected complex comprising several elements, while the chapel and cross are designated as architecturally valuable buildings. Cultural and historical points of interest therefore include both an ensemble and additional individual buildings.

Bus routes and cycle route 202

There are two bus routes with different itineraries. Route 589 serves Hořešovice on the Kvílice–Hořešovice–Líský–Louny route. Route 389 serves the Hořešovice stop on the Prague–Slaný–Louny–Chomutov route. Louny appears on both itineraries; the other places named provide further guidance for planning your journey. Before travelling, check the latest departure times for the route you plan to take.

There is also a designated cycling route: cycle route 202 passes through Hořešovice on the Kralupy nad Vltavou–Slaný–Louny route. If you plan to use it, check the signs locally. Alongside the bus routes, it provides another point of reference for travel planning, with a different focus.

Festival and planning your stay

The traditional Pálení čarodějnic (Witches’ Night) celebration takes place at the playground by the pond. If you want to plan your stay around the event, check the specific dates before travelling.

These options offer different ways to plan your visit: explore the village’s architectural history, travel by bus, take the cycle route or plan a stay around the festival. When looking for a holiday apartment in Hořešovice, consider what you want your trip to focus on. Are you mainly interested in the village’s history, including a cycling trip, or planning your journey around one of the two bus routes? A festival visit also means checking which date works for you.
