Landscape and arrival
In the municipality of Zemunik Donji, limestone rises alternate with shallow depressions, giving the Ravni kotari landscape its undulating character. The municipal area is considered a typical part of this landscape. The highest point lies in the northeast near Vidukina gaj and reaches 153.4 metres. This elevation adds a specific, identifiable landmark to the overall impression of rolling terrain. Zadar Airport is located in the settlement of Zemunik Donji. Prehistoric traces, churches and culture
The Gradina site in Zemunik Donji includes a prehistoric Illyrian hillfort. A later date is specified for the parish church of Kraljice mira – Kraljice Hrvata: it was consecrated on 13 July 1995. The church of Sv. Katarine (Kate), located in the cemetery in Zemunik Donji, is listed as protected cultural heritage under registration number Z-3020. The cultural sites therefore represent different historical aspects: a prehistoric site, a consecration date and protected status. The KUD “Sveta Kata” cultural and artistic association was founded in 2007, adding a connection to community life alongside the architectural and archaeological sites.
The 2024 edition of “Odisej pod murvom” was the event’s 15th multimedia edition. In Zemunik, the programme included talks on the Glagolitic script and the Rovaš script, a form of cuneiform. This particular edition thus brought together two topics in the history of writing in a multimedia event format. The founding year of KUD “Sveta Kata”, 2007, and the 2024 edition of “Odisej pod murvom” should be understood differently: one dates the association’s founding, the other a specific edition of an event.
Local products
Butić Pršuti produces and sells pršut, pancetta, sausages and pečenica. The producer traces its products to a long family tradition of making cured meat products. If you want to buy specific products, check their availability before visiting.
At Ravnokotarski Gastro Stol 2024, visitors could sample and buy local products directly from producers. The selection included local cheeses, honey, jams, spirits, wines and cured meat products. Unlike the specific meat products made by Butić Pršuti, this event covered several product categories and offered the opportunity to taste them. The distinction for culinary exploration is clear: Butić Pršuti specialises in named meat products, while Gastro Stol 2024 offered a broader selection, with tastings and direct purchases.
In the wider destination of Pasman
The wider destination of Pasman offers a broader landscape context: Zadar County combines a deeply indented coastline and numerous islands with fertile plains, karst and mountain landscapes, as well as water and forest resources. At 1,300 kilometres, it has the longest coastline among the Adriatic counties. This regional perspective differs from the local one: the municipality of Zemunik Donji is considered a typical part of Ravni kotari and is characterised by undulating terrain.
