Explore Zaglav through its various highlights: marked hiking trails, church and monastery history, and nautical facilities. There is also a ferry connection and a coastal landing point. If you’re looking for hotels in Zaglav, first consider whether hiking, historic sites or arriving by sea is most important to your plans.
Comparing Two Hiking Trails
Hiking Trail 11 runs around Zaglavski vrh. It is 4.13 km long, with 30 m of ascent and 30 m of descent, and is considered easy. Hiking Trail 10 runs from Zaglav to ÄŚelinjak: the route is 4.5 km long, has 198 m of ascent, is considered moderately difficult and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes on foot. Hiking Trail 10 also leads to a summit with views of the entire surrounding area. The trails are similar in length, but their elevation profiles and difficulty levels differ significantly. This makes it possible to compare the two routes on more than distance alone. Check trail conditions before setting out; for Hiking Trail 11, also check the signage.
Church, Monastery and Glagolitic Tradition
The Gothic Church of St. Michael the Archangel dates back to the 15th century and was consecrated in 1458. The Franciscan monastery in Zaglav also dates from this century. Another important date is 1451: that was when Franciscans of the Third Order Regular arrived in Zaglav, bringing the Glagolitic tradition. Fra Šimun Klimantović, a Glagolitic manuscript writer, also lived and worked in Zaglav. The dates 1451 and 1458 mark different events: the arrival of the Franciscans and the consecration of the church, respectively. Together, the church, monastery and connection to Klimantović provide several specific points of reference for exploring the town’s history.
Diving and Nautical Information
For diving plans, Kornati Diving Center is a specific point of contact on the Zaglav coast. It offers introductory dives as well as courses for beginners, advanced divers and professionals. As course offerings can change, it’s a good idea to check directly in advance to find out what is currently available.
G&V Line Iadera provides a daily ferry service on the Zadar–Sali–Zaglav route. Timetables may vary seasonally, so check the current schedule before traveling. The landing point in Zaglav has six berths, as well as electricity and water connections. Zaglav also has a fuel station for water sports enthusiasts, considered the only one on the lower nautical route of the Zadar Archipelago. For arriving by boat, the number of berths and the listed connections are useful details for planning. Check the current status of nautical facilities before arrival.
