Brbinj lies between the bays of Jaz and Lučina. Southwest of the settlement, striking rocks and numerous caves shape Brbinjščica Bay. It also serves as a sheltered anchorage facing the open sea. Bays, nautical orientation and a ferry connection give visitors different starting points for planning their trip; the long cultural history adds another perspective on the coast.

Bays, Moorings and Getting There

Guest boats can find moorings in Brbinj with access to water and electricity. Brbinjščica Bay and the moorings serve different purposes: the bay provides a sheltered anchorage, while water and electricity are available at the moorings. Those interested in diving sites can visit the Brbišćica underwater cave on Dugi Otok, listed as one of the island’s diving sites. Bays and a named underwater site thus offer distinct aspects of the subject of water.

Jadrolinija ferry 434 connects GaĹľenica with Brbinj; the stated crossing time is 1 hour and 40 minutes. As travel times and services may change, check the current information with the operator before travelling.

History and Cultural Heritage

Brbinj has a history spanning around 800 years. Its cultural heritage includes Glagolitic priests, who served as guardians and promoters of Croatian literacy in the area. This adds a distinct cultural and historical perspective to the landscape and maritime themes.

Cultural monuments are also a focus in Sali. The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary has a monumental wooden high altar dating from the 17th century. The Church of St John in Sali (Stivanje polje) is first mentioned in written records in 1064 or 1065.

Saljske užance is a three-day local festival in Sali that has been held for more than 50 years. During the festival, Tovareća mužika parades through the entire village during several performances, stopping at various locations to perform its programme. Its rhythm instruments include various drums and old iron irons filled with pebbles. Tovareća mužika’s Budnica is part of the programme on Sunday morning during Saljske užance.
