In Mali Lošinj, you can explore cultural history and activities on and under the water as distinct focuses for your trip. The Museum of Apoxyomenos takes you through an exhibition of nine scenes and transitional zones to a bronze sculpture. Moored in front of the museum is the Lošinjski loger Nerezinac, whose exhibition explores maritime themes. Palača Fritzi complements this perspective with art collections and architectural history. For a different focus, consider kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and the underwater archaeological park.

Museums Between Art and Seafaring

The Museum of Apoxyomenos is located in the Kvarner Palace on the Mali Lošinj waterfront. Visitors reach it on foot. There is no parking at the museum; municipal parking is available. The exhibition leads through nine scenes and transitional zones to a final room with the bronze sculpture. This sequence gives the tour a clear structure: the artwork stands at the end of the staged progression. Both pedestrian access and the parking situation are relevant when planning a visit to the museum.

The Lošinjski loger Nerezinac is moored in front of the museum. It is an interpretive center for maritime heritage and is classified as a protected cultural asset of the Republic of Croatia. Its exhibition covers the crew, provisions, cargo, sea routes and shipbuilding. The perspective therefore ranges from the people on board and their provisions to transport routes and ship construction. Nerezinac thus offers a maritime focus alongside the presentation of the bronze sculpture: both places explore cultural heritage, but from different perspectives.

Palača Fritzi brings together art and the history of a building. At the end of the 19th century, the palace was rebuilt in the historicist style; before that, the first town hall of Mali Lošinj had stood on this site. The palace displays the Piperata collection of Old Masters. In the wider destination of Mali Lošinj, it also houses Andro Vid Mihičić’s collection of Croatian masters. It comprises around 360 works of art. The collections and the building’s history offer art lovers different points of interest, without requiring a single theme to define their museum visit.

Activities on and under the Water

Activities available in the Mali Lošinj area include kayaking around Koludarac, diving, sailing and windsurfing. Lessons are offered in sailing and windsurfing. The options therefore differ in their format: kayaking takes place around Koludarac, while sailing and windsurfing are also available with lessons. When planning, you can weigh up a kayak trip against the two water sports that offer lessons.

The underwater archaeological park in Mali Lošinj has eleven exhibits installed at depths of five to 15 meters. Licensed divers and people with no diving experience can visit the park through the instructor-led Discovery Dive program. The number of exhibits and their depth give this visit a different character from activities on the water’s surface. If you are interested in archaeological finds, the park is a distinct option alongside the museum and maritime exhibition.

Coastal Character and Travel Choices

Many coves around Mali Lošinj have low, accessible shores. They are mostly rocky, with white pebbles in some places. This description of the shoreline adds another perspective on the coast to the cultural and sporting themes. When choosing what to focus on, you can distinguish between museum visits, maritime history, water sports and time spent in the coves, without having to combine these different experiences into a single itinerary.
